Abstract.... Pressurised light Water Reactor(PWR) are the most common nuclear reactors used today. It is necessary for each neutronic code to be validated for this type of reactor. The goal of this work is to create a complete calculation scheme which can be applied to the evolution of the core of a pressurised light water nuclear reactor using the lattice code DRAGON and the reactor code DONJON. Each step of this scheme will be validated by comparisons with other codes or with experimental results. The unit cell calculation will be computed for a benchmark … The assembly calculations will be used to compare the results given by DRAGON, APOLLO2 and MCNP [codes] for an assembly used by EDF [Électricité de France] for code testing. The core calculations will show that the codes DRAGON and DONJON can produce accurate macroscopic results for a real core.

CONT

CONT

Li-Fi(Light Fidelity) or VLC(Visible Light Communication) is a new wireless communication technology which enables wireless data transmission through LED [light emitting diode] light. The technology is based on the ability of SSL(Solid State Lighting) systems to use LEDs flickering(invisible to human eyes) to create a binary code and to send data through optic waves. Data can be received by photodiode equiped devices within the area of LED light visibility.

French

Domaine(s)

CONT

It wasn’t until the 1980's when a new material, GaAlAs(gallium aluminum arsenide) was developed, that a rapid growth in the use of LEDs began to occur. GaAlAs technology provided superior performance over previously available LEDs. The brightness was over 10 times greater than standard LEDs due to increased efficiency and multi-layer, heterojunction type structures. The voltage required for operation was lower resulting in a total power savings. The LEDs could also be easily pulsed or multiplexed. This allowed their use in variable message and outdoor signs. LED were also designed into such application as bar code scanners, fiber optic data transmission systems, and medical equipment. Although this was a major breakthrough in LED Technology, there were still significant drawbacks to GaAlAs material. First, it was only available in a red 660nm wavelength. Second, the light output degradation of GaAlAs is greater than that of standard technology.

A variable camber flap concept is optimized to reduce the drag of a low speed light UAV [Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle] between its stall and cruise speeds using an in-house aerodynamic shape optimization code. The flap, which maintains continuity on the upper surface, was analyzed both numerically and experimentally and was shown to provide important reductions in drag when compared to the clean wing/airfoil in the lower speed range(2. 7% on average for the wing) and to have significant actuation energy savings when compared to a conventional plain flap(in the order of 40%). Although the concept uses current actuator technology and materials it is a good option for improving flight endurance/range at low speed over other more complex and advanced morphing concepts.

a system of identification (based on digitized light patterns) designed to make a product difficult to fake or at least easily distinguishable from knockoffs.

CONT

Light patterns : A Los Angeles-based company, Light Signatures, Inc., creates its fingerprints by extracting random patterns inherent within the product itself. A computerized processor passes a high-intensity light beam through a paper label to be affixed to merchandise. The processor captures a picture of the tangled web of fibers in the paper, digitizes it and converts it into a number, which is printed on the label. Forgers can copy the numbers on the labels, but they can’t match the code to the fiber pattern. To check suspect goods, a manufacturer sends the labels back to Light Signatures, which compares their optical fingerprints to the numbered images. If the two don’t match, the labels-and probably the goods-are fake.

A disadvantage of early bar code cards was that the code was visible to any observer and consequently easy to duplicate. Recent versions have been introduced for security applications that encode the card so that they are readable only by ultraviolet or infrared light patterns of frequencies produced by the resonant circuit. The card code is then relayed to the remote card reader, which translates the pattern into the access information.
