An asphaltic product applied as an adhesive to seal the laps of roofing felt to each other.

CONT

Tapco's Tite Seal Cold Process Lap Cement is a high quality, fibered asphalt, solvent blend, of medium brushing consistency that provides a tough, permanent seal for laps of rolled roofing. It provides an even tighter longer lasting bond than hot asphalt without the disagreeable odor or smoke. This cold process product may also be used as an extra heavy bodied roof coating to seal cracks or resaturate old roofing layers. In some instances it may be used to patch roofs because of the extreme bonding quality of the product.

Cohesion [means] bonding within a snow layer or slab, the degree of which helps determine the overall strength of the slab. Cold new low-density snow may have little or no cohesion, behaving much like loose-dry sand. Conversely, small wind-broken snow grains often bond well and have many bonds per unit area, helping to produce a very cohesive slab.

Starch is supplied as a white, granular powder which is insoluble in cold water because of the polymeric structure and hydrogen bonding between adjacent chains. However, when an aqueous suspension is heated, the water is able to penetrate the granules and causes them to swell, producing a "gelatinized" solution or paste, depending on the concentration. Cooling this hot solution causes thickening, which is called "setback".

Cette réaction intermoléculaire est le mécanisme sous-jacent de la rétrogradation, un processus indésirable modifiant la texture et la stabilité (donc l'acceptabilité) de nombreux produits alimentaires contenant de l'amidon.
