Some people believe that it highlights the fact that the different groups named in the abbreviation have different experiences with discrimination, whereas others believe that it lumps together and blurs the distinct identities and experiences of these groups.

The Human Rights Commission was established in 1971 pursuant to the Human Rights Code. The Commission is mandated to promote an understanding of and acceptance of and compliance with the provisions of the Act.
