The technique of intravenous regional anesthesia(IVRA), or "Bier block, "was first introduced in 1908 by the German surgeon August Bier. A Bier block essentially consists of injecting local anesthetic solutions into the venous system of an upper or lower extremity that has been exsanguinated by compression or gravity and that has been isolated by means of a tourniquet from the central circulation.

La technologie DVI repose sur deux cartes. Le processeur 82750 d'Intel représente le cœur du DVI-Board. À ce propos nous devons distinguer deux processeurs : PB et DB. Le i82750PB est responsable de la compression en temps réel des séquences vidéo (des algorithmes de compression particuliers, satisfaisant à la norme MPEG, sont présents sur la puce sous forme de microcodes). Ce processeur est secondé pour la compression par une mémoire vidéo très rapide. L'algorithme est tellement perfectionné que seules sont enregistrées les modifications pouvant apparaître entre deux images.

Un bon skieur s'applique à «coller» au terrain et ne «décolle» une bosse que lorsqu'il ne peut faire autrement; il «avale» donc une bosse chaque fois qu'il lui est possible de le faire. L'avalement consiste en une flexion au-dessus d'une bosse suivie d'une extension en la contournant. Les skis partiellement dégagés de la neige au-dessus de la bosse permettent d'orienter un virage plus facilement au moment de l'extension. Par une série de flexion-extension, le skieur passe ainsi d'une bosse à l'autre tout en maintenant le contact de ses skis avec la neige et évitant d'être projeté par la bosse.

A technology that uses high-intensity sound waves in a pressurised gas to pump heat from one place to another.

Thermoacoustic refrigeration is a novel refrigeration process utilizing acoustic energy to produce heat pumping. The process uses standing acoustic waves in an enclosed cavity to generate the mechanical compression and expansion of a working fluid(gas in this case) needed for the cooling cycle. The technique has the potential for high efficiency operation without the need for cooling liquids or mechanical moving parts.

Compared to real aperture radar, Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) synthetically increases the antenna's size or aperture to increase the azimuth resolution though the same pulse compression technique as adopted for range direction. Synthetic aperture processing is a complicated data processing of received signals and phases from moving targets with a small antenna, the effect of which is to should be theoretically convert to the effect of a large antenna, that is a synthetic aperture length... The synthetic aperture length is the beam width by range which a real aperture radar of the same length, can project in the azimuth direction.

Due to the volume of data from Skylab experiments it was necessary to compress the vectorcardiographic data and eliminate redundant samples. A zero order predictor algorithm was selected as the data compression technique. In essence, a digital sample of a parameter was tested to determine if it differed from the value of the sample last transmitted. If there was no difference between the current sample and the previous sample, the value was considered to be redundant and not transmitted to L. B. Johnson Space Center.

A technique that reduces image resolution before image compression commences to reduce compressed image sizes. As an example, one technique collectively replaces a group of dot values with its average. Dots averaged together reside in non-overlapping squares. A single averaged value replaces the collectively averaged dot values, reducing image dot counts, resolution, and PDF compressed image sizes. A downsample factor of 2 reduces both horizontal and vertical image resolutions by a factor of 4.

Downsampling typically forfeits image detail, but yields significantly smaller compressed images. Acrobat Distiller products enable you to specify the minimum image resolution acceptable and use the maximum downsample factor that does not violate your selected minimum resolution specification or exceed your selected downsample integer value specification.

DPCM. The simplest form of predictive compression operates at the pixel level with a technique called differential PCM(DPCM). In DPCM, we compare adjacent pixels and then transmit only the difference between them. Because adjacent pixels often are similar, the difference values have a high probability of being small and they can safely be transmitted with fewer bits than it would take to send a whole new pixel.
