Cardiac concussion... is a relatively uncommon and frequently mortal condition... It has well-defined characteristics that clearly distinguish it from cardiac contusion. This last condition occurs far more frequently following blunt thoracic traumas. "Commotio cordis" results from a sudden and blunt impact to the precordial area that alters the normal cardiac electrical activity and causes cardiac arrest or sudden death, without evidence of anatomical and structural cardiac injuries. The impact causing "commotio cordis" is generally of low energy and low speed. Death is caused by a cardiac arrhythmia, and there is evidence that ventricular fibrillation is the most common in fatal cases. 4, record 1, English, - cardiac%20concussion

A concussion, also called a mild traumatic brain injury, is a head injury caused by the brain being shaken around inside the skull after a direct blow to the head, or a sudden jerking of the head or neck when the body is hit.... You don’t have to pass out(lose consciousness) to have a concussion. Some people will have symptoms of a concussion, such as passing out or forgetting what happened right before the injury, but others won’t. Common causes of a concussion/mild brain injury are falls, sports, physical assaults, and motor vehicle collisions. 6, record 3, English, - mild%20traumatic%20brain%20injury

Second impact syndrome can result from even a very mild concussion that occurs days or weeks after the initial concussion. What is Second Impact Syndrome? In patients who sustain a second concussion when the first one has not fully healed, the brain loses its ability to auto regulate intracranial and cerebral perfusion pressure. This may lead to cerebral edema(severe swelling of the brain) and possible brain herniation. Loss of consciousness after the initial injury followed by secondary brain damage creates ionic fluxes, acute metabolic changes, and cerebral blood flow alterations. All of these characteristics enhance the vulnerability of the brain and greatly increase the risk of death, even if the second injury was far less intense. 1, record 12, English, - second%20impact%20syndrome

Record number: 18, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Some confusion exists regarding the terms carpitis and osselets; therefore, a definition is appropriate. Carpitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the carpal joint that may involve the fibrous joint capsule, synovial membrane, associated ligaments, and bones of the carpus ... Osselets has been defined as a traumatic arthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint. It is more appropriate to restrict the term osselets to describe the thickening associated with synovitis and capsulitis of the fibrous joint capsule at the dorsal aspect of the metacarpophalangeal joint. Ossification can develop as a chronic change. 6, record 18, English, - carpitis

3, record 29, French, - claves
