A cloud chamber containing air supersaturated with water vapor by sudden expansion, in which rapidly moving nuclear particles such as alpha or beta rays produced ionization tracks by condensation of vapor on the ions produced by the rays. 4, record 4, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Cloud chambers were first developed by Charles T. R. Wilson around 1911 for experiments on the formation of rain clouds. Wilson knew that water vapour condensed around ions, atoms which have become charged by gaining or losing electrons. However, an alpha particle, for example, which had an electric charge, would leave a trail of ions as it passed through a gas. If water vapour condensed on these ions, the track of the alpha particle would become visible as a line of water droplets. 2, record 4, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are two basic types of cloud chambers in use today; (1) the expansion chamber ... which depends upon expansion of the air, within the chamber, to cool it and thus create a supersaturated atmosphere, and (2) the continuous or diffusion type chamber ..., that creates a supersaturated atmosphere by diffusion of vapor from the warm upper region of the chamber to the cooled bottom of the chamber. In both types, electrically charged ions created by nuclear particles colliding with atoms within the chamber atmosphere, serve as nuclei of condensation. 5, record 4, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

Oxyfuel combustion. An alternative is to burn the fossil fuel in pure or enriched oxygen. In such a fashion the flue gas will contain mostly CO2 and H2O. A part of the flue gas needs to be recycled into the combustion chamber in order to control the flame temperature. From the non-recycled flue gas, water vapor can be readily condensed, and the CO2 can be compressed and piped directly to the storage site. 3, record 5, English, - oxyfuel%20combustion

4, record 5, French, - oxycombustion

Many colloids occur naturally. Others can be prepared by breaking large pieces of material into smaller pieces, as with a colloid mill... Some colloids can be prepared by condensation methods, in which atoms or molecules are induced to aggregate from solution, or in which atoms or molecules are condensed from the vapor state. There are three important types of colloids : small solid particles having the same internal structure as the bulk solid phase(sulfur suspensions in water), aggregates formed from smaller molecules(soaps in water, and large molecules of colloidal size(proteins and high polymers). 3, record 6, English, - colloid

When superheated steam expands in a turbine it drops in pressure, loses its superheat, and becomes wet... Consequently, this steam is led out of the turbine after it has passed through the early high-pressure stages. It is then piped back to a reheater, a device similar in design and placement to a superheater, where it is reheated to approximately the original superheat temperature. From the reheater, the steam enters the turbine at a succeeding stage and passes through the remainder of the turbine. It exhausts at low pressure and is condensed into water for recirculation to the boiler. 1, record 14, English, - reheater

All clouds, from the puffy cumulus to the wispy cirrus, is a portion of air that has condensed into visible moisture. Cooling of such a portion of air to its dew point is by far the main reason for cloud formation. The main cause for the cooling lies in some process which causes air to rise or be forced upward. Large warm air masses may slide up the slope of a colder heavier mass of air. As the warmer air overrides the cooler, the warm air expands and is cooled itself by the expansion of air molecules, thus finally reaching a dew-point temperature resulting in widespread cloudiness. All clouds consist of minute water droplets, ice crystals, or a combination of both. 1, record 29, English, - cloud%20formation

To prevent pollution of the public water supply, the disposal of spent sulfite liquor into rivers is, in many cases, forbidden. The only solution possible is to evaporate it or even to dry it out completely.... The back-pressure process is notable for its great heat economy, but it makes necessary the profitable utilization of the back-pressure steam.... Because of the high temperatures during the evaporation process, thermal decomposition of the liquor may occur.... The thermal compression method is especially advantageous when cheap power is available. The steam formed during the evaporation is compressed and passed along the outer wall of the evaporator where it is condensed and its latent heat transferred to the boiling liquor. 1, record 32, English, - back%2Dpressure%20process

The steam heating system conveys steam through pipes to heat exchangers, such as radiators, convectors, baseboard units, radiant panels, or fan-driven heaters, and returns the resulting condensed water to the boiler.
