Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy (SFG) is a technique used to analyze surfaces and interfaces. This spectroscopy method utilizes sum frequency generation, where two light beams mix at a surface and generate an output beam with a frequency equal to the sum of the two input frequencies. From the experiment setup and the output beam, one can deduce the composition, orientation distributions, and some structural information of molecules on a surface. SFG has advantages in its ability to be monolayer surface sensitive, ability to be performed in situ (for example aqueous surfaces and in gases), and not causing much damage to the sample surface.

On January 1, 2008, the Alberta Utilities Commission Act split the(EUB) into two new regulatory bodies, the Energy Resources Conservation Board(ERCB) and the Alberta Utilities Commission(AUC). A column drier is equipped with one or more unobstructed columns through which grain falls by gravity. The columns are about 30 centimetres apart and are sheathed on either side by perforated screens or wire mesh which retain the grain but permit passage of air. On one side of each column, space is allowed for air entry and on the other side, air is discharged. Hot air passes across the column at the top of the drier, drying grain as it falls. In a similar manner, cool air passes across the bottom of the column to cool the grain. Some energy conservation has been achieved by recirculating part of the "spent" hot air which has passed through the heating section.

The Conservation Co-op is a four(4) storey eighty-four(84) unit apartment building, located in the Sandy Hill district of the City of Ottawa. The building is a housing cooperative where tenants as a group are committed to provide "green" alternatives in an environmentally friendly building. Each member is dedicated to environmental principles contained in the Co-op's "Code of Environmental Practice". The Conservation Co-op has some unique building features relating to energy conservation and reducing impacts on the environment, which have inspired the water reuse treatment system. All members follow certain guidelines in order to achieve the goals established by the Co-op. These goals include reducing the consumption of energy, water and waste to levels significantly lower that those of conventional households and to demonstrate that housing, which reduces environmental stress, is economically feasible.

The change in the reserves to production ratio for a given field, over a period of time, is a fair guide to the likely lifespan of the field and its rate of future production, for the R/P ratio cannot fall below about ten without an imminent drop in production. R/P ratios of 20-30 are considered high, though there are fields in the Middle East where the figure exceeds 100.

S. became the first signatory to the United Nations/Economic Commission for Europe(UN/ECE) Agreement Concerning the Establishing of Global Technical Regulations for Wheeled Vehicles, Equipment and Parts Which Can Be Fitted And/or Be Used on Wheeled Vehicles(the "1998 Agreement"). This agreement was negotitated under the auspices of the UN/ECE under the leadership of the U. S., European Community and Japan. The 1998 Agreement provides for the establishment of global technical regulations regarding the safety, emissions, energy conservation and theft prevention of wheeled vehicles, equipment and parts. The idea that a machine can be designed and constructed in such a way that, once started, it will continue in motion indefinitely without requiring any further input of energy(motive power). Such a device would contradict at least one of the two laws of thermodynamics that state that(1) energy can neither be created nor destroyed(the law of conservation of energy) and(2) heat cannot by itself flow from a cooler to a hotter object.
