Subject field(s)
  • Earthmoving
CONT

In most situations an allowance for horizontal run at the tops and toes of slopes is desirable to allow for slope rounding, to preserve stability of structure, to collect storm water and to allow for sedimentation at the toe of slopes.

CONT

... haul units are loaded at a distance and dumped from the tops of the slopes.

OBS

... a slope that has its contour lines spaced farther apart toward the bottom or toe of the slope and closer together near its crest is referred to as a concave slope.

Sur le plan, on représente l'emplacement du talus par une ligne indiquant la limite de ce talus, par conséquent soit le pied du talus de remblai, soit la crête du talus de déblai.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Site Development
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Field Engineering (Military)
DEF

The point on the slope of a hill that will not allow any person or object to be silhouetted against the horizon and also allows full view of the slope below.

CONT

The military crest... is the point near the top of a slope or brow from which the entire slope below can be seen. This strategic vantage point has historically been vital for an army's control and defense of the high point and surrounding countryside(hence its name). The military crest is also a desirable building location because of the view it affords.... Furthermore, the military crest is an important point for locating structures that visually blend in with the landform.

CONT

The top of the slope is most exposed to the elements. The planner may exploit or create a land profile similar to the "military crest" of the artillery manual--an adaptation or modification of the slope to preserve or enhance the view while affording increased protection.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
OBS

A pure number used in the analysis of the stability of slopes(...) It varies with the angle of internal friction, the ground water level, the slope angle, the surcharge on the crest and the depth of tension crack.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
OBS
