CREST SPEED [3 records]

Record 1 2024-01-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Physics
  • Rail Transport
CONT

Crest speed or maximum speed. The crest speed is the maximum speed which affects the schedule speed of the train... If the crest speed of the train increases, the actual running time of it decreases, hence the high crest speed of the train will increase its schedule speed... Also, the effect of crest speed on the schedule speed is considered only for long run duration.

Subject field(s)
  • Oceanography
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
OBS

This wave starts as a plunging, then the wave catches up with the crest, and the breaker surges up the beach face as a wall of water(with the wave crest and base traveling at the same speed). This results in a quickly rising and falling water level on the beach face, which makes holding craft position and unloading very difficult.

OBS

Surging breakers are usually found on a beach with a very steep or near vertical slope.

A summary of how wind is perturbed by a hill is catalogued below. 1. Winds : neutral thermal stratification : a. Maximum wind speed is near the crest. b. Minimum wind speed is in the valley. c. In the lee of the hill flow separation and reversed flow may occur. 2. Winds : stable thermal stratification :...

OBS

thermal stratification: The layering of different temperatures of ... air caused by different densities, less dense floating on more dense layers.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
OBS
