To avoid welding, [an] extension was joined to the old bridge by bolting. Rust was removed from the joining surfaces, and the extension was painted. Water penetrated the crack between the old and new surfaces and produced rust. As rust is more voluminous than the steel from which it is formed, the rust forced the two parts of the pipebridge apart—a phenomenon known as rust-jacking. 2, record 4, English, - rust%20jacking

The Noctuidae or Owlets are a family of robustly-built moths with more than 25, 000 known species [possibly 100, 000 in the family]. Most have drab forewings, although some have brightly coloured hindwings. Several species have larvae(caterpillars) that live in the soil and are agricultural or horticultural pests. Most nuctuid larvae feed at night, resting in the soil or in a crevice in its food plant during the day. 1, record 7, English, - owlets

Nearly every drug molecule works through a structural interaction with a "target" or "receptor" molecule or protein that plays key roles in all biological processes. In the most common model for this interaction, the drug molecule inserts itself into a functionally important crevice of its target protein, like a key in a lock. The molecule then binds there and either induces or, more commonly, inhibits the protein's normal function. This universal drug-target scheme suggests a powerful alternative approach to drug discovery : if it were possible to identify, in advance, the appropriate protein target for a given therapeutic need and if enough were known about the distinguishing structure of that target protein, it ought to be feasible to design the structure of an ideal drug to interact with it. 2, record 11, English, - target%20protein

The Tungum alloy is an alpha-brass of British origins. It has a passive oxide layer, which on exposure to reagents develops a very thin oxide coating. Tungum resists both stress and crevice corrosion in marine environments/atmospheres. This offers excellent service-life, even at intermittent duty in the highly corrosive 'splash’ zone. Tungum is non-magnetic and has non-sparking(electrostatic discharge) properties. This allows Tungum to be used in high pressure gas pipework systems(oxygen & inert gases). Uncommon among copper alloys, Tungum alloy can be precipitation hardened using heat treatment techniques. This enables its physical properties to be modified as required to suit various applications. Tungum alloy can be used for low temperature(cryogenic) applications. 2, record 13, English, - tungum%20alloy
