Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
General corrosion and crevice corrosion are the principal forms of corrosion observed on roadside infrastructure and metal bridges.... Severe corrosion at riveted and bolted joints can cause tensile failures of fasteners because of corrosion product wedging(i. e., rust jacking). 3, record 1, English, - rust%20jacking
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
To avoid welding, [an] extension was joined to the old bridge by bolting. Rust was removed from the joining surfaces, and the extension was painted. Water penetrated the crack between the old and new surfaces and produced rust. As rust is more voluminous than the steel from which it is formed, the rust forced the two parts of the pipebridge apart—a phenomenon known as rust-jacking. 2, record 1, English, - rust%20jacking

A form of corrosion that is localised, as it does not spread laterally across an exposed surface rapidly, but that penetrates at 10 to 100 times the rate of general corrosion, usually at an angle of 90° to the surface. 4, record 2, English, - pitting
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Localized corrosion of passivated metals... such as pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking... is more dangerous and destructive due to its latent incubation and quick propagation... Pitting is encountered most frequently in metallic materials of technological significance :[carbon, ] low alloy and stainless steels, nickel base alloys, aluminum, titanium, copper, and many other metals and alloys... [Severe pitting may occur] in different environments, especially in those containing chloride ions. 5, record 2, English, - pitting

4, record 2, French, - corrosion%20par%20piq%C3%BBres
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
4, record 2, French, - corrosion%20par%20piq%C3%BBres
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
4, record 2, French, - corrosion%20par%20piq%C3%BBres

The Tungum alloy is an alpha-brass of British origins. It has a passive oxide layer, which on exposure to reagents develops a very thin oxide coating. Tungum resists both stress and crevice corrosion in marine environments/atmospheres. This offers excellent service-life, even at intermittent duty in the highly corrosive 'splash’ zone. Tungum is non-magnetic and has non-sparking(electrostatic discharge) properties. This allows Tungum to be used in high pressure gas pipework systems(oxygen & inert gases). Uncommon among copper alloys, Tungum alloy can be precipitation hardened using heat treatment techniques. This enables its physical properties to be modified as required to suit various applications. Tungum alloy can be used for low temperature(cryogenic) applications. 2, record 3, English, - tungum%20alloy

4, record 4, French, - corrosion%20caverneuse
