CREW WORK STATION [13 records]

Record 1 2017-10-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Occupation Names (General)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

A member of the drilling crew whose work station is about the derrick floor.

CONT

Floorhand (or roughneck). A floorhand’s work is the most physical of any on the rig. A floorhand runs the rig floor when pipe or rods are being handled, performs routine maintenance, and keeps tools and equipment clean and well organized. They are responsible for following instructions as outlined by the operator as they relate to equipment set-up and operation, and performing various well servicing operating safely and according to CenAlta procedures.

CONT

A typical crew consists of a driller, derrickman, lead floorman (also called a motorman), 2 floormen, and a leasehand ...

CONT

On rotary drilling rigs, there are normally two floormen on each crew, but three or more men are used on heavy-duty rigs.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Désignations des emplois (Généralités)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
DEF

OBS

hands : ouvriers.

CONT

During most well servicing operations, the derrickhand works from a position high on the derrick of the rig and is harnessed in, in case of an emergency. The derrickhand’s responsibilities include handling pipe, operating and maintaining the pump as well as offering encouragement and training to the floorhands.

Currently, three distinct methods for performing on-orbit maintenance exist : intravehicular activity(IVA), extravehicular activity(EVA), and extravehicular robotics(EVR)... EVRs are conducted using the Space Station Remote Manipulator System(SSRMS) alone or in conjunction with EVA to perform external maintenance. The SSRMS may be used to move the crew member to the work site or move the work to the crew member.

[A platform which serves as] an astronaut toolholder and positioning aid.

CONT

The Portable Work Platform(PWP)... is a mobile base of operations that will enable EVA [Extravehicular Activity] crew members to reach various parts of the station. It is designed to attach to the end of the space station's mechanical arm... The PWP offers greater movement with a swiveling foot restraint, a storage location for tools, and temporary storage for large space station ORUs [Orbital Replaceable Units]. The platform comprises several components : an articulating portable foot restraint(APFR), a tool stanchion, and a temporary equipment restraint aid(TERA).

The Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator(SPDM) is an essential tool for maintaining and servicing the Space station. With its dual-arm design providing added flexibility, the SPDM will remove and replace smaller components; on the Station exterior, where precise handling : is required. It will be equipped with lights, video equipment, a tool platform and four tool holder. The SPDM can perform dexterous tasks by sensing various forces and moments on the payload. In response, it can automatically compensate its movements to ensure the payload is manipulated smoothly. With its two arms, the SPDM will load and unload objects, use robotic tools, attach and detach covers and install various units of the Space Station. It will either be attached to the end of Canadarm2 or ride independently on the Mobile Base System [MBS] and have Canadarm2 deliver equipment to it for servicing. It also has four cameras that will provide the crew inside the Station with additional views of the work areas. Like Canadarm2 and the MBS, the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator will be controlled by the crew inside the International Space Station. This system will allow the crew to perform many of the tasks that would otherwise require an astronaut to perform during a demanding spacewalk.

CONT

The Life Science Glovebox will provide a sealed work area in which crew members can perform experimental procedures.... The enclosed volume of the Glovebox will be about one half cubic meter(approximately 16 cubic feet). As air circulates through the work space, activated charcoal filters will clean it continuously by adsorbing chemicals that may be present. In addition, a high efficiency air filter will remove particles and aerosols. Two HHRs [Habitat Holding Racks] provide the structural, mechanical, environmental, and communications support for the biospecimen habitats. The HHRs will provide life support resources and electrical power to the habitats and other scientific equipment, as well as data links to ISS [International Space Station] systems and the ground.
