CREW WORKLOAD [5 records]

Record 1 2015-10-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Flight Instruments and Equipment (Aeroindustry)
  • Computer Display Technology
CONT

The EFIS, which employs four large displays, presents vital information to the crew in an uncluttered format, simplifying cockpit scan and thereby reducing pilot workload and fatigue.

CONT

Electronic flight instrument system (EFIS). The EFIS contains four large liquid crystal displays (LCD) AFDs [adaptive flight displays]. The two outboard AFDs are composite color displays strapped to function as PFDs [primary flight displays]. The PFD replaces a conventional attitude direction indicator (ADI), horizontal situation indicator (HSI), altitude indicator (ALI), airspeed indicator (ASI), vertical speed indicator (VSI) and mach speed indicator (MSI).

OBS

electronic flight instruments system; EFIS: term and abbreviation officially approved by the Air Force Terminology Panel (Trenton).

OBS

electronic flight instruments system; EFIS: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments et équipement de bord (Constructions aéronautiques)
  • Techniques d'affichage (Ordinateurs)
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance
CONT

[The advanced refuelling system, ] located underneath the rear fuselage of the tanker aircraft, is remotely controlled from a console in the cockpit, where an operator uses an advanced technology 2D/3D high definition/digital enhanced video monitoring system. Adverse weather, day or night refuelling can be performed, thanks to its stereoscopic vision and laser based infrared lighting systems. This gives safer operation and reduced workload for the boom operator, while enabling the tanker crew to be located together.

CONT

The Weightless Environment Training Facility(WETF)... consists of a water-filled pool with dimensions of 25 ft.(depth) x 78 ft.(length) x 33 ft.(width). Also included, is a urification system, environmental controls, television monitoring, a 5-ton capacity overhead crane, a test director, and medical support personnel... The WETF is a controlled neutral buoyancy facility used to simulate the conditions of weightlessness for astronaut training. It provides for the evaluation of body restraints, handholds, and extravehicular activity(EVA) equipment; for the development of crew procedures and for the determination of EVA capabilities and workload limits. The facility provides high fidelity simulations of crew on-orbit operations in a controlled environment and substantially reduces human risks when performing EVA operations.

OBS

weightless environment training facility; WETF: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

CONT

To obtain maximum precision of speed and vertical path control while keeping crew workload within reasonable limits, it is necessary to remove the pilot from the speed control loop, by interfacing the sensor/computer/display system both with the autopilot(for pitch control) and with an autothrottle control system.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Constructions aéronautiques
CONT
