The total of all enclosed spaces within a ship available for cargo, expressed in tons, each of which is equivalent to 100 cubic feet (the register ton).

CONT

Net register tonnage(NRT)... is obtained by deducting the volume of spaces not available for cargo(such as space for propulsion machinery and crew's quarters), from the volume for GRT [gross register tonnage, ] and dividing the resultant volume in ft3 [cubic feet] by 100(or by 2. 83 if in m3 [cubic metres]). The NRT also could have decimal value.
