Cribbing is essential in many extrication operations. Its most common use is to stabilize objects. Wood selected for cribbing should be solid, straight and free of major flaws such as large knots or splits. Cribbing surfaces should be free of any paint or finish because this can make the wood slippery, especially when it is wet. Cribbing can be made out of pieces of timber found in the debris and cut to size.... Cribbing involves multiple pieces of wood laid on the side and crossed. It spreads the load well and has many load transfer surfaces. It also has lateral stability depending on the ratio of width to height. The height should not be more than three times the width. 1, record 4, English, - cribbing

1, record 4, French, - calage

The crib annex obtains its name because it is built using the same cribbing principles as the elevator. It is usually partitioned into storage bins 2. 7 metres by 2. 7 metres or 3. 7 metres by 3. 7 metres depending upon the amount of strength required to coincide with the desired height of the annex. These annexes are normally about the same height as the elevator and for this reason, gravity is not used for filling them. Instead, they are filled using a horizontal grain auger or drag conveyor which leads from the elevator distributor spout to the selected annex bin. A screw auger empties the annex by bringing grain from the spout of the desired bin into the elevator's back hopper. 4, record 6, English, - grain%20auger

3, record 10, French, - tic%20%C3%A0%20l%27appui

Crib biting is a vice, often associated with windsucking, in which the horses bites his crib, the bar of a gate or any other projection, and at the same time swallows air. The habit is often started by boredom. The front portions of the incisor teeth gradually become rounded. Also called cribbing. There are various devices designed to counter the habit. The crib strap consists simply of a thick leather shield which fits into the gullet and is held in position by an adjustable strap which passes round the nose. 1, record 11, English, - crib%20strap

Early elevators were 9. 1 metres long by 9. 4 metres wide, ranged from 15. 2 metres to 18. 2 metres in height and had a storage capacity of about 680 tonnes. Cement piers were used to raise them slightly off the ground to allow for ventilation and help control rodents. They were built with 5. 1 by 15. 2 centimetre wooden planks and 5. 1 by 10. 2 centimetre wooden planks. The 2 x 6's were placed flat side up, one on top of each other and securely nailed with spikes to give strength. This procedure was used for the lower part of the elevator; 2 x 4's were then used in a similar manner until the top of the elevator was reached. 1, record 14, English, - crib%20annex

1, record 15, French, - convoyeur%20%C3%A0%20bande
