Il y près de 40 ans, un groupe de Notaires, constatant la multiplicité et la cadence accélérée des réformes législatives, l'évolution de jurisprudence, l'accroissement de la masse documentaire, l'isolement de certains d'entre eux, et le manque de temps pour la recherche, décidèrent la création d'un organisme collectif d'information et de documentation. C'est ainsi que fut créé, en avril 1962, par le Conseil régional des Notaires de LYON, le premier «Centre de Recherche, d'Information et de Documentation Notariales» (CRIDON).
