[One of the principal ways of termination of the status of war is] by armistice agreement, where the agreement although primarily intended to bring about a cessation of hostilities, operates subsequently as a result of its practical application by the parties de facto to terminate the status of war. This, it is believed, is largely a question of construction of the particular armistice agreement concerned. 1, record 1, English, - armistice%20agreement

Provisional application. A treaty or a part of a treaty is applied provisionally pending its entry into force if: (a) the treaty itself so provides; or (b) the negotiating States have in some other manner so agreed. Unless the treaty otherwise provides or the negotiating States have otherwise agreed, the provisional application of a treaty or a part of a treaty with respect to a State shall be terminated if that State notifies the other States between which the treaty is being applied provisionally of its intention not to become a party to the treaty. 3, record 2, English, - provisional%20application

1, record 2, French, - application%20%C3%A0%20titre%20provisoire
