  • Electrical Measuring Equipment
  • Vacuum Tubes (Electronics)
DEF

The reciprocal of the deflection sensitivity in a cathode-ray tube.

CONT

... the deflection factor... generally has the units V/cm [volt/centimeter]. It is a measure of the deflection voltage which must be applied to obtain a certain deflection on the screen.

OBS

deflection coefficient: term officially approved by the Electronics and Telecommunications Terminology Committee.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oscillators and Oscillating Circuits (Electronics)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
  • Electrical Engineering
DEF

An electronic circuit that generates a voltage or current, usually recurrent, as a prescribed function of time; the resulting waveform is used as a time base to be applied to the deflection system of an electron-beam device, such as a cathode-ray tube.

CONT

A sweep generator produces signals that are somewhat different from the ones that a standard generator puts out, in that it sweeps the frequencies up and down.

Key term(s)
  • time base generator
  • timing axis oscillator

French

Domaine(s)
  • Circuits oscillants et oscillateurs (Électronique)
  • Télévision (Radioélectricité)
  • Électrotechnique
CONT

Un générateur de rampe fournit une tension en «dents de scie».

OBS

Bien qu'il ne soit pas correct, le terme «base de temps» est fréquemment utilisé.

Record 4 2010-01-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
CONT

A sweep ramp provides the tuning voltage for a voltage-tuned oscillator and is simultaneously applied to the horizontal-deflection system of a cathode-ray-tube display. The local-oscillator frequency is mixed with the input signal to produce an intermediate frequency(IF). The IF is detected, filtered, and applied to the vertical deflection plates of the CRT [cathode-ray-tube].

CONT

The receiver has to have suitable pass band characteristics to deal with the pulse modulation side bands, and must be free from paralysis following reception of a large signal ... Its output is rectified and amplified and applied to the cathode-ray tube display, either as a deflexion or an intensity modulation. The cathode-ray tube is also supplied with a range time base ..., synchronized to the pulse transmission, and suitable calibration devices ... are usually also necessary. The form of the display unit depends on the particular radar application, and on what coordinate or coordinates other than range are to be presented. For example, in the plan position indicator the time base starts from the centre of the tube and goes radically outwards in a direction depending on the azimuth of the beamed aerials (which sweeps continuously), and the signal is presented as a spot intensifier.

Subject field(s)
  • Flight Instruments and Equipment (Aeroindustry)
  • Aircraft Piloting and Navigation
  • Navigation Instruments
CONT

The gyroscopic frame is responsible for the stabilization of the platform. Three rate gyroscopes are fitted in the frame with their input axes mutually perpendicular... Pitch, roll, and yaw are detected by the three gyroscope input axes. The gimbal deflection of each of the gyroscopes is converted into a signal voltage that, when amplified, drives a servomotor which, via a gear train, rotates the frame back to its original position.

Subject field(s)
  • Amplifiers (Electronics)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
DEF

An amplifier used with a cathode-ray tube, such as in a television receiver or cathode-ray oscilloscope, to amplify the sawtooth output voltage of the sweep oscillator, to shape the waveform for the deflection circuits of a television picture tube, or to provide balanced signals to the deflection plates.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Amplificateurs (Électronique)
  • Télévision (Radioélectricité)
CONT
