Age-related macular degeneration is the most common cause of severe loss of eyesight among people 50 and older. Only the center of vision is affected with this disease. It is important to realize that people rarely go blind from it. AMD affects the central vision, and with it, the ability to see fine details. In AMD, a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. In advanced stages, people lose their ability to drive, to see faces, and to read smaller print. In its early stages, AMD may have no signs or symptoms, so people may not suspect they have it. 6, record 1, English, - age%2Drelated%20macular%20degeneration

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells(neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. The disease belongs to a group of disorders known as motor neuron diseases, which are characterized by the gradual degeneration and death of motor neurons. 3, record 5, English, - amyotrophic%20lateral%20sclerosis

Because Charcot made the first clinical description in the 1860s, the disease is named for him in Europe. In the United States [and Canada], the disease often is called Lou Gehrig disease after the baseball legend who died from ALS in 1941. 2, record 5, English, - amyotrophic%20lateral%20sclerosis

Tauopathy constitutes a group of diseases that have in common intracerebral deposition of tau protein and that share clinical, pathological, biochemical and genetic similarities. It is possible to differentiate these diseases depending on whether or not a parkinsonian syndrome exists and whether tau is or not the primary pathological abnormality. Among the main tauopathies with tau protein deposits, it is important to know the main features of progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, Pick's disease, Niemann Pick type C and frontotemporal degeneration linked to chromosome 17. 3, record 6, English, - tauopathy
