DEGREE SORTING [5 records]

Record 1 2007-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
CONT

Sediments ... formed from broken pieces of rock are called detrital sediments ...

CONT

Detrital sediments are... characterized by their sorting, the degree to which clastic particle sizes are similar. Sediments are described as poorly-sorted if a mix of particle sizes is present, and well-sorted if primarily one particle size is present.

OBS

Alluvial formations are composed mainly of detritic sediments of varying grain size and composition.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
DEF

CONT

Le détritique côtier.

Record 2 2006-11-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Soil Mechanics (Engineering)
  • Geology
OBS

Classification used defining degree of sediment sorting(from Buchanan, 1984) : Standard Deviation of mean Phi Classification :<0. 35 Very well sorted; 0. 35-0. 5 Well sorted; 0. 5-0. 71 Moderately well sorted; 0. 71-1 Moderately sorted; 1-2 Poorly sorted; 2-4 Very poorly sorted; >4 Extremely poorly sorted.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des sols
  • Géologie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
CONT

Hydraulic sorting of detrital grains.

CONT

Extremely fine gold particles are more readily transported, and their concentration(or dissemination) in the fluvial or littoral environment is determined by hydraulic sorting(flow separation), which is dependent on such factors as the size, shape, and specific gravity of individual grains in the sediment load, the velocity and degree of turbulence of water flow, and the nature of the stream bed...

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des fluides et hydraulique (Physique)
CONT

Tri hydraulique des grains détritiques.

CONT

CONT

Title: ... Defining the Welfare of Children by Q-methodology ... Director: Frank J. McGilly ... School of Social Work ... McGill University ... Keywords: ... Q-Deck Methodology ....

OBS

The coauthor of the report explained that in this method a Q-deck, that is, a deck of cards, is used; the subject is asked to respond to the questions by sorting the cards into piles depending on the degree to which he agrees with the statement on the card.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Geology
  • Statistics
OBS

A measure of the spread or range of variation of the particle-size distribution in a sediment. It is defined statistically as the extent to which the particles are dispersed on either side of the average: the wider the spread, the poorer is the sorting.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Géologie
  • Statistique
OBS
