Dehumidified Storage. The dehumidification equipment has been calibrated to maintain the relative humidity just below 50%, the level below which unprotected steel will not corrode. This level of dehumidification will not harm natural materials such as wood or leather hides. Background heating is also applied to the facility, when required, to maintain the ambient temperature at above 5 °C.

Solar assisted cooling can be divided in three broad categories : 1) Systems that provide refrigeration(either by a system using absorption cooling or by a conventional vapour-compression air conditioning unit... 2) Dehumidification systems(air is dried and then cooled by evaporation. Solar energy is used as the source of heat for regenerating the air-dehumidifying agent) 3) Natural cooling methods. Heat is transferred during the day from the warm house to the storage medium from where it is given off to the night air and sky by convection and radiation).

Cette technique est également appelée «conditionnement d'air», bien qu'on tende à réserver ce dernier terme aux installations ayant pour objet non pas d'assurer le confort, mais de maintenir des matériaux, des denrées, des appareils, etc., dans des conditions favorables à leur conservation ou à leur fonctionnement.

[...] les deux termes «climatisation» et «conditionnement», tout en étant, sous certaines conditions, parfaitement compatibles, ne le sont plus et ne doivent en aucune façon être employés inconsidérément dès qu'il s'agit d'exposés ou d'études techniques traitant les sujets ayant un caractère analytique ou scientifique bien précis. Ainsi, par exemple, le terme «climatisation» n'est pas applicable dans le cas d'un bloc opératoire où il s'agit non seulement d'obtenir des conditions, autant que possible, les plus favorables à l'équilibre homéotherme des occupants (malade et corps médical opérant), mais surtout, et avant tout, les conditions les plus parfaites d'hygiène et d'asepsie (air neuf 100 %, traitement germicide, filtrage absolu, humidité relative compatible avec la sécurité en ce qui concerne le danger d'explosion des vapeurs des anesthésiques, etc.). Il s'agira donc bien d'un «conditionnement» d'air et non d'une simple «climatisation»!
