Depressional wetlands occur in topographic depressions. Dominant water sources are precipitation, ground water discharge, and both interflow and overland flow from adjacent uplands. Les zones humides de dépression sont dans des dépressions topographiques dont l'altitude élevée des contours permet l'accumulation des eaux de surface dans la dépression, sans former de plan d'eau. Les sources principales d'eau sont les précipitations, les apports d'eaux souterraines et les ruissellements issus des terres hautes adjacentes.
