DEVOLATILIZATION [4 records]

Record 1 2006-05-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ovens, Furnaces and Boilers (Heating)
  • Coal-Derived Fuels
CONT

The controlled mixing history reactor (CMHR) is used to study the thermal destruction of surrogate solid wastes at high temperatures and under controlled environment . ... The CMHR is a plasma-operated drop-tube furnace capable of termperatures up to 2,500 ºK.

CONT

To understand better the mechanisms involved in the ignition, devolatilization and char burnout regimes of turbulent coal diffusion flames, CANMET has designed and built a controlled-mixing history reactor(CMHR) which is presently being commissioned.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fours et chaudières (Chauffage)
  • Combustibles dérivés des charbons
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mining of Organic Materials
  • Processing of Mineral Products
  • Mineral Processing (Metallurgy)
  • Geochemistry
CONT

As the coal... is heated up, devolatilization commences and from a temperature of 1150 to 1400°F(621 to 760°C) onward, devolatilization is accomplished by gasification of the resulting char.

CONT

... the [ore-forming] fluids were metamorphically derived during devolatilization reactions associated with prograde metamorphism of deeper crustal rocks.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Exploitation de matières organiques (Mines)
  • Préparation des produits miniers
  • Minéralurgie (Métallurgie)
  • Géochimie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

A piece of extrusion equipment with provision for the removal of volatiles, either through a port in the barrel (vented barrel) or through the screw core (vented screw).

CONT

Devolatilization is not performed on all extruders, only on those specially designed to extract volatiles from the polymer. These devolatilization extruders are usually referred to as vented extruders.

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
CONT

Key term(s)

Record 4 1993-07-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Biomass Energy
CONT

Conventional pyrolysis is typically characterized by a slow feedstock heating rate(less than 2 °C/s), low temperatures(less than 500 °C) and relatively long gas and solids residence times(greater than 5 s for the gas; solids residence times can be minutes, hours or days in duration). Tar and char are the primary products due to slow devolatilization of the feedstock, and the secondary coking and polymerization(recombination) reactions which are allowed to occur in the reactor after primary pyrolysis has taken place.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Énergie de la biomasse
DEF
