En papeterie, le format indique les dimensions de la feuille de papier, qui porte un nom jusqu'au XIXe siècle avant de s'exprimer en centimètres et selon une norme internationale.

OBS

On trouve les formats suivants : aigle (grand, 75 X 106 et petit 70 X 94 cm), coquille, raisin, couronne, jésus, colombier, écu, montfaucon. [Toutes ces appellations sont maintenant considérées comme désuètes.]

OBS

En Amérique du Nord le format des feuilles est indiqué en pouces tandis qu'en Europe on utilise les centimètres et les millimètres.

L represents "lengthwise curl" about the axis perpendicular to the length or machine direction of the sample for roll film or to the longest specimen dimension for sheet film. T represents "transverse curl" about the axis parallel to the length or machine direction of the sample. D represents "diagonal curl" about the diagonal of the specimen.

La table rectangulaire est employée dans le même genre de réunions que la table ovale. Elle peut entraîner plus de confrontations.

OBS

Par définition, le terme anglais "rectangle" désigne une figure de 4 angles droits (cf. WEBIN, 1976 et WEBAB, 1984). Le terme "rectangular table" engloberait donc la table carrée (à 4 côtés égaux) et la table rectangulaire (plus longue que large). L'adjectif français "oblong" signifie plus long que large, mais pas nécessairement rectangulaire.
