During a solar eclipse, contacts are the times at which the edge of the Sun's disk and that of the Moon seem to touch. These contacts therefore define key moments during the progress of the eclipse as viewed from a given location. 1, record 1, English, - contact

1, record 1, French, - contact

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, causing the Moon to cast a shadow on a portion of the Earth's surface.... during a total solar eclipse, the Moon aligns perfectly with the Sun and covers the entire solar disk, resulting in a momentary darkening of the sky. As a result, the corona becomes visible as a halo of glowing plasma encircling the Moon. 3, record 2, English, - total%20solar%20eclipse

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 2, French, - %C3%A9clipse%20solaire%20totale

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Occasionally the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun but doesn’t completely cover it. This odd-sounding situation is an annular eclipse, so-called because at mid-eclipse a ring, or annulus, of sunlight surrounds the lunar disk. Outside the zone of annularity, observers see a partial solar eclipse. 2, record 3, English, - path%20of%20annularity

An annular eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the Sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the dark disk of the Moon 4, record 4, English, - annular%20eclipse

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Thermal turbulence in the atmosphere is usually the main factor that limits the resolution, or fine detail, that can be seen on the planets or the moon. When the seeing is good, planetary detail is distinct and has better contrast. Bad seeing is characterized by a dynamic blurring, or even severe motion of the entire planetary disk. 3, record 5, English, - thermal%20turbulence

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
