DISSOLVED POLLUTION [5 records]

Record 1 2021-01-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Pollution
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
CONT

Stormwater treatment implications : Settling alone is insufficient for runoff treatment, due to the relatively high level of dissolved pollution with relatively low settling velocities.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'eau
  • Traitement des eaux usées
  • Traitement des eaux
CONT

Record 2 2021-01-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Pollution
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
CONT

[The organic matter] budget indicates that tributary inputs in reaches #1 and #3 should be investigated as point sources of dissolved organic pollution to the river.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'eau
  • Traitement des eaux usées
  • Traitement des eaux
CONT

Record 3 2016-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pollutants
  • Water Pollution
DEF

The curve resulting from plotting the concentration of dissolved oxygen against distance or time of flow in a river downstream from a source of pollution that has an oxygen demand.

OBS

oxygen sag curve: term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Agents de pollution
  • Pollution de l'eau
DEF

Record 4 2001-03-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Pollution
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
CONT

Zones of Water Pollution. Discharge or mixing zone is where pollutants enter the stream or the river. If the waste is dark, it will make the water dark, increase its temperature and subsequently oxygen levels will drop. The rate of discharge should not be stronger than flow of the stream. In zone of degradation oxygen levels drop from BOD(biological/biochemical oxygen demand). Zone of active decomposition is characterized by the following changes : 1) dissolved oxygen(DO) will be at its absolute minimum; 2) odors and gases bubbling up. In the zone of recovery the river will slowly restore its oxygen through aeration process. The anaerobic conditions will disappear. Nitrites will be converted into nitrates and stimulate growth of algae, which will produce oxygen through process of photosynthesis. In zone of clean water oxygen levels are really elevated. And BOD is almost satisfied.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pollution de l'eau
  • Traitement des eaux
DEF
