DISSOLVED-AIR FLOTATION [6 records]

Record 1 2017-02-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
  • Wastewater Treatment
DEF

Flotation in which air bubbles emerging from a supersaturated solution become attached to suspended solids in the liquid undergoing treatment and float them up to the surface.

CONT

Dissolved air flotation [uses] fine bubbles of air generated by reduction to atmospheric pressure of a pressurised mixture of liquid and dissolved air....

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement des eaux
  • Traitement des eaux usées
CONT

Record 2 2000-11-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Wastewater Treatment
CONT

In many applications in water and wastewater treatment, biotechnology and food processing, the flotation of small colloidal matter is best carried out by utilizing small bubbles in the size range of 20 to 100 microns in diameter(Matis and Zouboulis, 1995). Small bubbles also work quite effectively in the removal of near-neutrally buoyant emulsified contaminants, where the use of conventional treatment techniques such as sedimentation or centrifugation results cost-intensive(Pushkarev et al., 1983). In practise, such small bubbles are generated by dissolved-air or electrolytic methods, and the technique has been termed microflotation(Rubin et al., 1966).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement des eaux usées
DEF

  • Anti-pollution Measures
  • Water Pollution
  • Paper Manufacturing Processes
CONT

The two principal methods of primary treatment employed in the pulp and paper industry are gravity sedimentation and dissolved-air flotation. Sedimentation or gravity settling is by far the most common process used because it is relatively insensitive to variations in flow and solids concentration, and requires little attention and maintenance.

OBS

sedimentation basin: A large container in which wastewater is retained so that any suspended solids will settle by gravity and then can be removed.

  • Mesures antipollution
  • Pollution de l'eau
  • Fabrication du papier
CONT
