A technique for measuring the distance modulus and hence the distance for a star cluster... the main sequence portion of a graph colour index versus apparent magnitude for the cluster is superimposed on the main sequence of a standard Hertzprung-Russell diagram, the spectral types of the two curves being made to overlap. 2, record 1, English, - main%2Dsequence%20fitting

The difference m-M [apparent magnitude minus absolute magnitude]... depends only on the distance of the star and is called its "distance modulus". The distance Modulus of a star, then, is a measure of its distance, from which the actual distance, in parsecs, can be calculated. 1, record 3, English, - distance%20modulus

[...] si la magnitude absolue [M] est définie par d'autres considérations quelconques, en connaissant la magnitude apparente [m], il est facile de trouver la distance [r] exprimée en parsecs, en appliquant la condition log r = 1 + 0,2 (m-M).
