Record number: 12, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm. 1, record 12, English, - wave%20energy%20breakwater

But the generation ability of the solar cell decreases in inversely proportional with the rate of 1. 5 power to the distance from the Sun.(The intensity of Sun ray decreases in inversely proportional with 2. 0 power to the distance from the Sun, while the generation efficiency of the solar cell increases with lowering temperature.) Therefore, if we send spacecraft to the planet farther than the Asteroid Belt(numerous small planets existing at the orbit between Mars and Jupiter) and conduct many observational work, solar cell is no longer effective. In evaluating the performance of an antenna as a radiating system one considers only the field at a large distance, where the induction field can be neglected. The antenna is then treated as an effective point source, radiating power that, per unit solid angle, is a function of direction only. The directive properties of an antenna are most conveniently expressed in terms of the "gain function"... The gain function is defined as the ratio of the power radiated in a given direction per unit solid angle to the average power radiated per unit solid angle... The maximum value of the gain function is called the "gain"... The gain of an antenna is the greatest factor by which the power transmitted in a given direction can be increased by using that antenna instead of an isotropic radiator. 2, record 15, English, - gain%20function

Antenna pattern correction. The brightness of the image is affected by the antenna gain variation where the near range will receive maximum power while the far range will receive minimum power. This effect produces an image that varies in intensity(tone) along the range direction across the image. The conventional method for starting such a weld was to drill a pilot hole to serve as the initial keyhole, carefully align the welding torch over the pilot hole, adjust the standoff distance, and then turn on the torch at full power.... The new starting technique does not depend on precise manual alignment. The welding torch is positioned with no more than the usual care. As the torch begins to move along the weld, the welding current is gradually increased toward the full operating level, causing the depth of the weld to increase gradually until the keyhole is formed.... The standoff is controlled by the automatic-voltage-control portion of the welding equipment. At the end of a circumferential weld, the torch can continue a short distance past the starting point to overlap and thereby complete the weld in the starting transition region. 1, record 23, English, - variable%2Dpolarity%20plasma%2Darc%20keyhole%20welding

Understanding Loop Flows. Electricity flowing between a generator and a customer moves through all lines connecting the two, not only along the shortest distance between the two points. Grid operators must carefully balance power supplied to the system with power being used by customers so that individual lines are not overloaded. Neighboring transmission systems are usually connected together, and this can complicate power flows even more. 1, record 25, English, - loop%20flow

MODVAT on Capital Goods for Captive Power Generation.... It is... regretted that MODVAT is not allowed when the same generating set is used for generating captive power but in a separate factory belonging to the same unit. The separate location is for valid operational reasons. For example, a large aluminum company with its smelting operations has located its captive power plant some distance away from the aluminum factory but at a place where it has access to coal and water and other infrastructure. The captive power unit is a big unit and cannot be within the aluminum factory. This unit generates electricity, which is transmitted to its aluminum factory for its exclusive use in the production of aluminum.... the captive power plant should be treated as an extension of the factory as it is used to produce the finished product.... 1, record 28, English, - captive%20power%20generation
