Radar d'observation météorologique d'utilisation aisée localement et à distance. Juchée tout en haut de la Montagne des Pères, à quelques kilomètres de Kourou sur la route de Cayenne, la station météo du Centre Spatial Guyanais vient de se doter d'un nouveau radar plus performant, d'une portée de 400 kilomètres et capable de fournir au centre Météo-France de Cayenne-Rochambeau des données de précipitations toutes les 5 minutes. ROMUALD couvrira les zones habitées du littoral, de Saint-Laurent aux frontières du Brésil, tout en assurant pour le Centre Spatial Guyanais un rôle essentiel de prévision météo lors des lancements Ariane.

Triggered conformational changes... are the motions of groups of atoms(i. e. individual side-chains) or whole sections of a protein(i. e. loops of chain, domains of secondary and tertiary structure, or subunit), which occur as a response to a specific stimulus. The distance moved can be as much as 10 [angstrom unit] or more. The time scale can be estimated by studies of the rate of binding or turnover reactions. The energy for triggered conformational change comes from specific interactions, such as electrostatic attractions or hydrogen bonding interactions. The best-known example of a triggered conformational change is the transition in tertiary structure that occurs when ligands bind to the iron atoms of hemoglobin.

The types of substances whose binding can trigger a specific conformational change include substrates (dihydroxyacetone phosphate in triose phosphate isomerase), coenzymes (NAD binding to lactate dehydrogenase), allosteric effectors (CTP and ATP in aspartic transcarbamylase), inhibitors (statine-containing polypeptide inhibitors of acid proteases) and even protons (the Bohr effect in hemoglobin; pH-dependent conformational changes in adenylate kinase).

Distance is still an important source of trade costs and continues to have an irrevocable impact on the patterns of international trade ... various factors ... can explain the importance of geographical proximity for bilateral trade. First, transport costs and costs of timeliness increase with distance. Moreover, psychic distance increases as well. Because of cultural unfamiliarity and information costs, traders have less knowledge of distant markets.

If transportation costs are the main source of distance effects on trade and wages, we can expect that in some service sectors, distance effects may indeed be eliminated with globalization.

There is no shortage of estimates of the effect of distance on trade flows. A huge number of papers have examined the determinants of bilateral trade flows and they almost invariably control for distance. Despite the abundance of such studies, assessments of the distance effect tend to be anecdotal.

Les extensomètres proprement dits sont destinés à mesurer la variation de distance entre deux points de la pièce étudiée. Dans chacun d'eux, on peut distinguer trois sortes d'organes, à savoir : le véhicule qui doit transmettre fidèlement la dilatation de la pièce ou dispositif d'amplification; le dispositif d'amplification (avec ou sans transformation); le dispositif de lecture (...) Lorsque l'extensomètre est attaché rigidement à la pièce aux deux extrémités de la base, il faut que celle-ci ne subisse pas de flexion sous l'effet de la sollicitation qui lui est appliquée, faute de quoi la dilatation de la pièce n'est pas transmise fidèlement. En fait, le procédé n'est plus utilisé que dans les appareils à base de plusieurs décimètres, employés sur de grands ouvrages.

Noter que la documentation disponible ne nous a pas permis de trouver un contexte illustrant l'application de l'extensomètre à la mesure de l'activité sismique.
