A snow cannon works by atomizing water and allowing it to freeze into snow. The device is often used by ski hills and ski resorts to supplement naturally occurring snow and extend the skiing season.

For the purpose of manufacturing snow, we use low-pressure mobile snowmakers commonly called “snow cannons. ” These snow cannons are essentially equipped with an air compressor and a powerful turbine fan. The integrated fan blows the surrounding air through a large tube. At the end of the tube, water is vaporised under pressure through fine nozzles into the flow of air and carried a distance of 20 to 45 meters in altitude, during which the water freezes into crystals and snow flakes, and falls to the ground.

The ram profile is a record of a hardness index through a vertical section of the snowpack. The ram hardness(R) is measured by driving a ram penetrometer(ram or ramsonde) vertically into the snowpack. The ram is a tube or rod with a centimeter scale for depth and a standard cone-shaped tip. The operator drops a hammer(H) a certain distance(f) and records the penetration depth(p) of the ram into the snow.

This axle, equipped with two automobile wheels, is designed to support the ends of the trunks which usually drag on the ground. It consists of an axle about 1. 5 m(5 ft) wide whose rounded surface makes it easier for the trunks to slide. A removable stake is installed on each side of the sulky, to contain the load. A tube welded perpendicular to the front of the axle, with a chain on the end, is used to attach the load firmly.
