DISTENSION [25 records]

Record 1 2024-06-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
  • Hormones
  • Dietetics
CONT

As food enters the intestines for digestion, the peptide hormone cholecystokinin(CCK) stimulates the vagus nerve to send a satiety signal to the brain. The vagus nerve is therefore sensitive to stomach distension and CCK levels, as well as other factors related to food consumption. It communicates these satiety signals to the brain, and reduces food consumption. Other satiety signals operate over a longer time scale. The most important of these is the hormone leptin..., which is released mostly from adipose cells... The more fat in the cells, the more leptin is released into the bloodstream. When leptin reaches the brain, it signals that enough fat is stored throughout the body.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Veterinary Medicine
DEF

The data collected on an animal concerning a disease that is being investigated.

CONT

Rupture of the urinary bladder at the time or parturition occurred in a 2 year old Angus cow. Anamnesis included a dystocia followed by a gradual(16 days) onset of anorexia and abdominal distension. Prominent findings on the physical examination were marked dehydration, symmetrical distension of the lower abdomen with ascitic fluid, pneumoperitoneum, absence of rumen contractions, and constipation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Médecine vétérinaire
DEF

It may be barely perceptible or, in the extreme case, extend to the umbilicus or even higher. It is often visible as a rounded prominence. The percussion note is dull; when enlargement is not sufficient to produce a palpable mass, it can sometimes be diagnosed by finding a circumscribed area of slight dullness above the symphysis.
