Proximal convoluted tubule diuretics. The proximal convoluted tubule is the primary site for NA+ [sodium ion] reabsorption and seems a likely site for effective diuretic action. However, the number of downstream reabsorption sites limits the effectiveness of any diuretic targeting this region. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are the only commonly used diuretics that particularly target this region although they are rarely used primarily as diuretics. They work by blocking the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which acts to help reabsorb bicarbonate in the proximal tubule. 2, record 10, English, - proximal%20diuretic

Hydro-flattening is the process of creating a lidar [light detection and ranging]-derived DEM [digital elevation model] in which water surfaces appear and behave as they would in traditional topographic DEMs created from photogrammetric digital terrain models (DTMs). 5, record 37, English, - hydrological%20flattening
Record number: 37, Textual support number: 1 OBS
[A] digital elevation model(DEM) or triangulated irregular network(TIN) derived from LiDAR [light detection and ranging] data will show unpleasant and unnatural water surface due to the fact that LiDAR data does not provide natural breaklines and the elevations of water points is not uniform. Furthermore, hydrologic connectivity in water surfaces is necessary to ensure that the elevation of water surface decreases from upstream(U/S) to downstream(D/S). Therefore, the LiDAR data is hydro-flattened so that water bodies such as streams, rivers, and long reservoirs show an elevation change along their length, whereas ponds, lakes, or other cartographically polygonal water surfaces show a static water surface, consistent with their natural behavior and the surrounding topography... 6, record 37, English, - hydrological%20flattening

Run-of-river power stations use the natural flow of river water to drive turbines. Although the head of water between the upstream and downstream sides is modest compared to storage power stations, the volume of water available is usually greater. Run-of-river power stations operate continuously. They meet basic electricity needs by supplying the steady underlying demand. The amount of electricity produced depends on the river's flow; they are generally more productive in summer than in winter. 9, record 42, English, - run%2Dof%2Dthe%2Driver%20hydroelectric%20plant

9, record 42, French, - centrale%20au%20fil%20de%20l%27eau

The reactor is situated downstream of an activated sludge tank and ensures nitrification of the effluent. At its outlet a recirculation loop channels some of the mixed liquor back to the activated sludge tank-head where the nitrates are broken down into gaseous nitrogen(denitrification). Actuator disk theory. The simplest model of a horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) is one in which the turbine rotor is replaced by an actuator disk which removes energy from the wind. As the wind strikes the actuator disk on the upwind side, the pressure rises there, and the wind is deflected away from the disk, causing a large wake downstream of the disk. Actuator disk theory relates the pressure drop across the disk to the change in wake size and the energy which can be extracted from the wind. 2, record 74, English, - actuator%20disk%20theory

Success of vortex theories in the performance analysis of horizontal axis wind turbines depends greatly upon accurate specification of the geometry of the vortex wake... An earlier wake model of helicopter rotors is extended for wind turbine applications, the fast free wake method(FFW). The FFW was accomplished by partitioning the flow field downstream of the rotor into three regions :(1) the near wake, modeled as a series of straight vortex lines;(2) the intermediate wake, modeled as a number of vortex rings; and(3) the far wake, taken to be a semi-infinite cylindrical wake. 3, record 78, English, - fast%20free%20wake%20method

5, record 80, French, - %C3%A9olienne%20aval

The water pressure against the gate is concentrated in the axis; this arrangement reduces friction in raising and lowering the gate. A seal is placed along the sides and bottom of the gate face for watertightness. The gate is raised and lowered by winches or hoists attached to cables or chains fastened to the bottom edge of the gate and lying against its water face; this allows a vertical lifting force to be applied. It can be closed under its own weight. 4, record 98, English, - tainter%20gate
