Actuator disk theory. The simplest model of a horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) is one in which the turbine rotor is replaced by an actuator disk which removes energy from the wind. As the wind strikes the actuator disk on the upwind side, the pressure rises there, and the wind is deflected away from the disk, causing a large wake downstream of the disk. Actuator disk theory relates the pressure drop across the disk to the change in wake size and the energy which can be extracted from the wind. 2, record 3, English, - actuator%20disk%20theory

It has been suggested ... that since the thinnest layer of sand to act successfully as an erosion pumping filter was 25 mm, and the slurry penetrated /3mm in this case, then a geotextile with a thickness of 10 mm or more might successfully replace the sand blanket layer. The fact that the most successful sand blanket have voids ranging from 5 to 30 [micrometers] seems to suggest that the geotextile’s voids should be of a similar magnitude. Erosion pumping filters, using a geotextile in conjunction with a sand blanket, are much more effective than geotextiles alone. 1, record 17, English, - sand%20blanket

Soil retention test. One variation of this test is directed primarily toward the use of geotextiles as underwater silt curtains. The test device consists of two rectangular tanks which are placed end to end with slide gates facing one another. Between these two slide gates is the fabric specimen under test. The upstream tank(with the slide gate closed) is now filled with water that has a known amount of silt uniformly mixed in it. The gate valve at the exit end of the downstream tank is opened. The test begins by lifting up the slide gates on each side of the fabric and allowing the(turbid) water to pass through the fabric, which is acting as a submerged soil filter.... This test... is aimed at the reduction in turbidity of rivers and streams during adjacent construction activities.
