DOWNWASH ANGLE [4 records]

Record 1 2014-10-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aerodynamics and Theory of Gases
  • Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance
DEF

The angle between a suitable reference line in a body (such as the axis of a body of revolution or the chord line of a wing) and the projection of the velocity relative to the ambient undisturbed relative airflow air on to the plane of symmetry.

CONT

The angle at which the airfoil meets the relative airflow is called the angle of attack. As the angle of attack is increased, the changes in pressure over the upper and lower surfaces and the amount of downwash(i. e. air deflected downward) increase up to a point(the stalling angle). Beyond this angle, they decrease.

OBS

The angle of attack should not be confused with the angle of incidence.

OBS

angle of attack: term standardized by ISO and the British Standards Institution (BSI); term officially approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Théorie des gaz et aérodynamique
  • Aérotechnique et maintenance
CONT

Subject field(s)

  • Air Pollution
CONT

Even supposing that the plume rises were a clear concept, and its value correctly known, we still have the enormous variations in the spreading of known passive plume.

CONT

Plume Geometry and Rise. Once a puff is released from a point source it will move away from it with a speed and direction determined by the wind.

CONT

At the request of member utilities, EPRI is managing a multi-year collaborative applied research effort focused on developing improved plume rise and downwash sub-models for incorporation into regulatory air quality dispersion models.... A field measurements program was performed from February 10-March 5, 1994 to characterize plume rise and building-induced downwash at a representative combustion turbine facility, under a variety of meteorological conditions.... PRIME [Plume Rise Model Enhancements] explicitly calculates the local slope of the mean streamlines as a function of building shape and wind angle, and coupled with a numberical plume rise model, determines the change in plume centerline location with downwind distance.

PHR

To characterize plume rise, to computer plume rise in models, to develop plume rise models, to develop plume rise modules, to evaluate plume rise modules.

PHR

Numerical plume rise model.

PHR

Plume rise algorithms, plume rise models, plume rise modules.

DEF
