Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The tipsails are an extension of NASA [National Aeronautics and Space Administration] technology which led to the application of small winglets on many airplanes... Tipsails operate in the rotational flow field of the wing tip vortex, giving an effect similar to the sail of a boat as it moves into the wind. The force vector produced by the pressure differential between the two surfaces is directed forward, which results in a cruise drag reduction. Rudders, located at the trailing edge of the tipsails, provide directional control without requiring a special surface dedicated solely to that purpose. 4, record 4, English, - winglet

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Dynamic stall is a non-linear unsteady aerodynamic effect that occurs when aerofoils rapidly change the angle of attack. The rapid change can cause a strong vortex to be shed from the leading edge of the aerofoil, and travel backwards above the wing. The vortex, containing high velocity airflows, briefly increases the lift produced by the wing. As soon as it passes behind the trailing edge, however, the lift reduces dramatically, and the wing is in normal stall. 5, record 5, English, - aerodynamic%20stall

The mineral clogging mechanism. Due to the drag force of the water at the interface between the soil and a drain pipe, soil particles may be carried into the pipe via its slots. This process can never be prevented completely, but can be counter-acted by installing an envelope material, often a geotextile, around the drain. Generally, two types of mineral clogging can be detected which are referred to as primary and secondary mineral clogging. Primary clogging is a consequence of the sudden drastic changes in the soil/water boundary conditions, caused by the installation of the subsurface drainage system, and the resulting water flow, including particle transport due to the high hydraulic gradients, towards the newly installed pipes. Secondary clogging is defined as particle transport into filters and/or pipes, in the long term;... 1, record 11, English, - primary%20mineral%20clogging

The mineral clogging mechanism. Due to the drag force of the water at the interface between the soil and a drain pipe, soil particles may be carried into the pipe via its slots. This process can never be prevented completely, but can be counter-acted by installing an envelope material, often geotextile, around the drain. 1, record 12, English, - secondary%20mineral%20clogging

[tau] = mass[star]acceleration/area. Units should be kg[star]/s²·/m² (Newton = kg[star]m/s²). So [tau] is in Newton/m². Friction is the resistance force, or drag, that arises when a material surface slips over another surface. Coefficient of friction is a measurement of the slip level between two adjacent film surfaces... The maximum force required to initiate sliding is referred to as the static coefficient of friction. Once sliding has commenced, the minimum force required to maintain slippage is called the kinetic coefficient of friction. 3, record 24, English, - static%20coefficient%20of%20friction

By drawing an analogy between linear and rotational dynamics, an equation describing the viscous torque acting on an object rotating in a fluid can be anticipated. Stokes’ and Newton's models of a viscous drag force are commonly used to describe the damping force acting on an object moving linearly through a fluid. This experiment demonstrates that these models can be extended to describe the viscous torque that damps the rotation of an object in a fluid. When the rotating object is round, the fluid flow is laminar; hence, the viscous torque is proportional to the angular velocity to the first power, analogous to Stokes’ model. However, when the rotating object is rough, causing the fluid flow to be turbulent, the viscous torque is proportional to the angular velocity to the second power, analogous to Newton's model. In addition, this experiment demonstrates that the proportionality constant between viscous torque and angular velocity is dependent on the shape of the object, as is the case in both Stokes’ and Newton's models. 1, record 27, English, - viscous%20torque

The rotating-vane-type viscosity measuring element depends upon the drag on a rotating member in contact with the material whose viscosity is to be measured. The vane or rotating element is driven by a synchronous electrical motor. The torque required to rotate the member of the vane is measured and is proportional to the viscosity in contact with the rotating element. The synchronous motor drives the cage at a constant speed. The upper spindle arm is coupled to the cage through a calibrated beryllium-copper spring. During measurement, the spring is wound up until its force exactly equals the viscous drag on the spindle; then the cage and spindle continue to operate at the same speed, but with a definite angular relationship to each other proportional to the torque on the spring. 4, record 30, English, - rotating%20spindle%20apparatus%20for%20measuring%20viscosity
