Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 6, French, - gloire

Bronchiolitis is a common lower respiratory tract infection in infants and young children, and respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) is the most common cause of this infection. RSV is transmitted through contact with respiratory droplets either directly from an infected person or self-inoculation by contaminated secretions on surfaces. Patients with RSV bronchiolitis usually present with two to four days of upper respiratory tract symptoms such as fever, rhinorrhea, and congestion, followed by lower respiratory tract symptoms such as increasing cough, wheezing, and increased respiratory effort. 3, record 13, English, - respiratory%20syncytial%20virus%20bronchiolitis

Two pathways to glaciogenic cloud seeding were developed. Static seeding aims at using modest or "optimal" amount of seeds with the target of forming ice(or snow) crystals that collect supercooled droplets in a process called riming, which leads to formation of graupels and their precipitation. The dynamic seeding aims at rapid glaciation of the whole cloud by using large amounts of seeds. 2, record 17, English, - dynamic%20cloud%20seeding

1, record 17, French, - ensemencement%20dynamique

Vaccine-preventable diseases(VPDs) are diseases caused by bacteria and viruses that can be prevented by vaccines. VPDs can spread through different routes such as the air, respiratory droplets, and bodily contact. Some diseases, such as measles, are extremely contagious.... Many of the diseases prevented by vaccines have dramatically declined since the introduction of vaccination programs. However, awareness of VPDs continues to be a priority so that members of the public and health professionals understand why it is important to keep vaccinating against those diseases. When people stop vaccinating, VPDs, such as measles, can recur and spread rapidly around the world. 2, record 23, English, - vaccine%2Dpreventable%20disease

Method for oil spill dispersion ... The problem of oil spills in a body of water has defied any simple solutions. Generally skimmers and other mechanical separators are used. Cloud chambers were first developed by Charles T. R. Wilson around 1911 for experiments on the formation of rain clouds. Wilson knew that water vapour condensed around ions, atoms which have become charged by gaining or losing electrons. However, an alpha particle, for example, which had an electric charge, would leave a trail of ions as it passed through a gas. If water vapour condensed on these ions, the track of the alpha particle would become visible as a line of water droplets. 2, record 66, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

There are two basic types of cloud chambers in use today; (1) the expansion chamber ... which depends upon expansion of the air, within the chamber, to cool it and thus create a supersaturated atmosphere, and (2) the continuous or diffusion type chamber ..., that creates a supersaturated atmosphere by diffusion of vapor from the warm upper region of the chamber to the cooled bottom of the chamber. In both types, electrically charged ions created by nuclear particles colliding with atoms within the chamber atmosphere, serve as nuclei of condensation. 5, record 66, English, - Wilson%20cloud%20chamber

SIAM is a technology that defies the current laws of imaging. It permits scientists to view images much smaller than the wavelength of light and approaching the atomic level, an achievement that has long been considered impossible according to the basic principles of classical optics. SIAM works by shining light through a thin sample onto an ultra-sharp, vibrating tip on the other side. The light scattering from the tip gets altered as the tip approaches within a nanometer from the sample surface, as it vibrates, due to the optical interaction with the local properties of the sample. An image is built up by recording the scattered light as the probe is scanned line by line. The scientists recorded the variations in the scattered light using a very sensitive device--an optical interferometer--which is capable of measuring modulations in light level corresponding to single photons. As the tip moved across the surface, these variations were mapped by a computer into a picture of the surface, showing features such as oil droplets and steps on mica that were only a few atoms in size. 3, record 70, English, - scanning%20interferometric%20apertureless%20microscope

1, record 70, French, - SIAM

The dominant snow crystal illustrated... is a hexagonal plate with six radiating arms. However, associated with the surface of the central plate and extending into the arms are numerous spherical "droplets". These particles, which are about 0. 03 to 0. 05 mm in diameter, are consistent with the descriptions of cloud particles or supercooled water droplets that have been described in light microscopic examinations of snow crystals(Bentley and Humphreys, 1931; Nakaya, 1954). The radiating arms contain another type of surface structure, namely small microcrystals that consist of short hexagonal columns most of which are only 0. 05 to 0. 10 mm in diameter. Some of these structures appear to be transitional stages that arise from the droplets. 3, record 88, English, - hexagonal%20column

Nonpermanent membranes or "liquid-surfactant membranes"... refer to a water-immiscible phase composed of surfactants, "additives", and a hydrocarbon solvent that contain emulsion-size aqueous droplets of various reagents or catalysts.... The general procedure for immobilizing enzymes with liquid-surfactants membranes microcapsules is similar to that used for microencapsulation with permanent membranes. The aqueous enzyme-containing solution is emulsified with a surfactant to form the liquid membrane encapsulated enzyme. Once prepared, the microcapsules are transferred to an aqueous solution to which then can be added the substrate. 2, record 96, English, - liquid%2Dsurfactant%20membrane%20microcapsule

2, record 96, French, - microcapsule%20%C3%A0%20membrane%20liquide
