Ground-based weather radars emerged during World War II and have since been used to observe precipitation, mostly over land. Ground-based radars send out pulses of microwave energy in narrow beams that scan in a circular pattern. When the microwave pulse encounters precipitation particles in the atmosphere, the energy is scattered in all directions, sending some energy back to the radar. These measurements are used to estimate intensity, altitude, precipitation type(e. g., rain, snow, hail), and motion. Obtaining continuous measurements of precipitation from ground-based systems(e. g., from rain gauges and radar systems) presents a challenge due to large gaps between monitoring sites on land and huge gaps over the ocean. 1, record 1, English, - ground%2Dbased%20weather%20radar

ANZA continued their meet & greet, and social functions throughout the years, until the flow of visitors ceased due to travel restrictions brought on by the start of World War Two. In 1952, the ANZA was revived but the nature of ANZA changed, and it became primarily a social club for Australians & New Zealanders living in the Greater Vancouver area... 1, record 9, French, - Lieu%20historique%20national%20de%20la%20Grosse%2D%C3%8Ele%2Det%2Dle%2DM%C3%A9morial%2Ddes%2DIrlandais

One interpretation of the timing of the generations is that they relate to the underlying business cycle of capital equipment purchase, the Juglar cycle originally identified in the nineteenth century(Juglar 1889) and apparent as a definite eight year cycle through to the current times(Lewis 1978). The peaks in the Juglar cycle correspond to our eight year boundaries from 1940 through 1980; the USA statistics show the 1964 peak as being in 1967 due to purchases to support the Viet Nam war but the next peak is in 1972 on target showing the dominating effect of world trade cycles rather than national events(Van Dujin 1983). 2, record 11, English, - Juglar%20cycle

3, record 11, French, - cycle%20Juglar

Very often the armed forces of belligerents consist throughout the war of their regular armies only; but it happens frequently that irregular forces take part. Of such irregular forces two different kinds are to be distinguished-first, such as are authorised by the belligerents; and, secondly, such as are acting on their own initiative, and on their own account, without special authorization. Formerly it was a recognised rule of International Law that only the members of authorised irregular forces enjoyed the privileges due to the members of the armed forces of belligerents; members of unauthorised irregular forces were considered to be war criminals, and could be shot when captured. During the Franco-German War in 1870, the Germans acted throughout according to this rule with regard to the so-called "franctireurs", requesting the production of special authorization form the French Government from every irregular combatant whom they captured, failing which he was shot. But according to Art. 1 of the Hague Regulations this rule is now obsolete. 2, record 12, English, - franc%2Dtireur
