Point in time of an enzymatic reaction in progress when the enzyme-substrate complex concentration(ES) is constant : i. e., the rate of change of(ES) is zero; the quantity of ES formed is equal to the quantity decomposed to E + P(products).

Under steady state conditions the equations involved are comparatively straightforward and the data are usually collected over a time scale of minutes so that ’conventional’ methods of mixing and observation can be employed.... For a system where the substrate diffusion coefficient is independent of the substrate concentration, the enzyme is evenly distributed on the surface of the support and all the enzyme molecules are equally active, the rate of substrate transfer equals the rate of reaction at steady state.

Lorsqu'un enzyme est mis en présence de son substrat, généralement sous forme de solution, la combinaison enzyme-substrat est rapide [...] particulièrement lorsque le substrat est en large excès. Cette étape initiale, appelée phase pré-stationnaire, a longtemps échappé à l'approche expérimentale : sa durée est de l'ordre de la milliseconde. [...] À la fin de cette étape commence la phase stationnaire, pendant laquelle l'enzyme est saturé par son substrat, et la combinaison enzyme-substrat est à concentration maximale et constante, et durant laquelle la vitesse de la réaction est constante et répond à une cinétique d'ordre nul. Cette vitesse, dite malencontreusement vitesse initiale, caractéristique de la phase stationnaire puisqu'on lui donne parfois son nom, maintient sa constance tant que le substrat est à concentration saturante de l'enzyme.

[Phase stationnaire :] Ne pas confondre avec «phase immobile» en chromatographie ou avec une des phases de la courbe de croissance de bactéries.

OBS

L'expression vitesse initiale pour désigner la phase stationnaire n'est pas heureuse, elle a été adoptée à une époque où les méthodes ne permettaient pas d'observer la phase préstationnaire.

Propriétés Extrême-Pression (EP) [des lubrifiants]. Lorsque les conditions du frottement deviennent plus sévères (hautes températures, charges élevées), on emploie des produits réagissant irréversiblement avec les surfaces métalliques. Les films inorganiques ainsi formés empêchent l'adhésion et donc les soudures entre les pièces en glissement relatif. Ces produits, communément appelés additifs Extrême-Pression, contiennent du chlore, du soufre, du phosphore, soit seuls ou en combinaison.
