VICBAR stands for Vic Ooyama's barotropic model. The model is initialized with deep layer mean winds and geopotential heights from a mass-weighted average of the 850, 700, 500, 400, 300 and 200 mb levels. Analyses are produced on three nested grids :(1) a fixed synoptic domain 27. 5 S to 67. 5 N, 10 E to 140 W;(2) a storm environment 50 degree latitude-longitude box centered on the current storm location; and(3) a vortex domain circle of 7. 4 degree(about 800 km) radius centered on the current storm location. 2, record 2, English, - VICBAR

[In the equation] Q1 is the effective sulphur dioxide emission for long-range transport. A certain smaller part of the emissions is deposited locally and never mixes throughout the mixing layer. 2, record 6, English, - locally
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Defining the area affected by the initial phase as a circle with 70 km radius surrounding the source gives E/Q-values that vary with city size... Thus the analysis does not support the idea that a major portion of the sulfur emitted in a city like Paris is deposited locally. This is an important conclusion, as it lends support to the fundamental idea that most of the sulfur dioxide emitted from a heavy source area survives the initial phase when the pollutants are confined to the air layers relatively close to the ground. 3, record 6, English, - locally

3, record 6, French, - localement
