It has become fairly common in hospitals, clinics, and other institutions in many parts of Canada to see an Aboriginal healer undertaking a ceremony for a patient. This development really accelerated in the early 1980s, as hospital administrators grappled with the complexities of having so many culturally different patients who were going to consult healers with or without hospital involvement. 3, record 15, English, - Indigenous%20healer

The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground(in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. Red River log construction is yet another Metis contribution to the development of Canada. 2, record 27, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20construction

Host : Chinch bugs attack a variety of forage, lawn, and wild grasses. The principal crop plants damaged are wheat, corn, sorghum, oats, etc. Symptoms : The chinch bug pierces the plant with its moth parts and sucks out the plant sap. This feeding prevents normal growth and results in dwarfing, lodging, and yield reduction. Severe infestations during early development may cause plants to wilt and die prematurely. A new development in mulch technology is the wavelength-selective film. It provides much of the weed control benefit of black plastic mulch, but warms the soil more than does black mulch. Thermic films, such as the IR-303 Thermofilm, were originally developed as greenhouse covers. They are reputed to reduce maximum and increase minimum temperatures slightly more than standard polyethylene films. These thermic films may have a role as hoop-supported row covers(tunnels). In a preliminary trial in 1990, the combination of black mulch and tunnels of either Lutrasil or IR-303 Thermofilm produced greater early yield than either black film or wavelength-selective mulch films alone. 2, record 76, English, - wavelength%20selective%20mulch

The Canadian Aboriginal Science and Engineering Association is a private, non-profit organization, which seeks to significantly increase the number of Aboriginal scientists and engineers in the nation and to develop technologically informed leasers within the Aboriginal community. CASEA's ultimate goal is to be catalyst for the advancement of Aboriginal peoples as they seek to become self-reliant and self-determined members of society. CESEA in partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society begins working as early as elementary school through the development of science and math camps, teacher training and mentor ship programs to strengthen Aboriginal students’ educational background in math and science, and to prepare them for the academic pressures of post-secondary school life. At the college and university levels, scholarships will be developed and sought from corporate sponsors. Recruiting opportunities to further prepare Aboriginal students for successful science and engineering careers will be available through the CASEA contact network. Each CASEA student is asked to give back to the Aboriginal community after graduation; thus CASEA students become more than professionals in the technology field, they become architects of a new destiny for Aboriginal peoples. 3, record 77, English, - Canadian%20Aboriginal%20Science%20and%20Engineering%20Association

Fungi are a major source of spoilage in cereal grains, causing visible and invisible damage to the kernels. They can be divided into two major groups : field fungi and storage fungi. This is a natural division based on the moisture content of the kernels. During the early development of grain in the field, the moisture content of the kernels is high. As the grain matures, the moisture level gradually drops until at harvest, a mature kernel has from 13 to 16% moisture. Field fungi require higher moisture levels, while storage fungi can survive at lower levels. Thus, in the grain silos where the kernels finally mature, the storage fungi take over from the field fungi. The most important field fungi are Alternaria, Cladosporium, Fusarium and Helmintosporium. The most important storage fungi are Aspergillus and various Peniccilium species, which are active in the moisture range of 13 to 18%. 1, record 81, English, - storage%20fungi

A regulatory gene expressed in the early phase [of HIV infection] is called nef. Until quite recently, it was believed that nef's role was to suppress transcription, but new experiments have cast doubt on that interpretation. Nef protein may somehow modify the cell to make it more suitable for manufacturing HIV virions later. In any event, it now appears that production of nef protein is required for the development of AIDS, a finding that could be important if a way can be found to block its action. 4, record 84, English, - nef%20protein

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, 1997-2002, replaced The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons, 1989-1997. The Standing Committee on Human Rights and Status of Disabled Persons combined the mandates of two committees--the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Standing Committee on the Status of Disabled Persons. In 1995 the Standing Committee Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons changed to the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. The Standing Committee on the Status of Disabled Persons, 1987-1989, succeeded to the Sub-Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped which was created in 1985 and to the Special Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped, created in the early 1980's. 2, record 87, English, - Special%20Committee%20on%20the%20Disabled%20and%20the%20Handicapped

The ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation has a rich and interesting history. It began in 1935, when the mandate of the ministère des Affaires municipales was broadened to include industry and trade, two sectors of increasing importance to the government. In 1943, the ministère de l'Industrie et du Commerce was founded. Over the years, other mandates were grafted onto its mission : technology in 1988, science in 1994, and external trade in 1996. In 1998, the science and technology mandates were entrusted to the ministère de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie, which, in its early days, was charged with devising a scientific policy to bring about a new convergence between universities, industry and government. In 1998, the ministère des Régions was created as a successor to the Secrétariat au développement des régions in order to implement the new policy to support local and regional development, with a view to promoting and assisting the development of the regions and ensuring consistent government action. On April 29, 2003, the Premier announced the creation of the ministère du Développement économique et régional(MDER) out of these four entities. The purpose of the merger was to improve intervention targeting regional businesses and stakeholders by simplifying it and making it more coherent and efficient. In April 2004, "Recherche" was added to the MDER's name. In February 2005, the MDERR was divided into three departments : the ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation; the ministère du Tourisme; and the ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions. 1, record 98, English, - minist%C3%A8re%20du%20D%C3%A9veloppement%20%C3%A9conomique%2C%20de%20l%26rsquo%3BInnovation%20et%20de%20l%26rsquo%3BExportation

1, record 98, French, - minist%C3%A8re%20du%20D%C3%A9veloppement%20%C3%A9conomique%2C%20de%20l%27Innovation%20et%20de%20l%27Exportation
