There has been a continuing trend toward the development of earlier maturing varieties of wheat. The advantages of early maturity are many. Early wheat often escapes damage from heat, drought, insects, or disease(and early harvest) is advantageous in areas where multiple cropping is practiced. 1, record 1, English, - early%20maturity

... 30 days earlier seeding does not mean you get a 30 day earlier harvest. It might give you only 10 early days at the end of the growing season. But that 10 days is nothing to sneeze at. Having early crop on some fields lets you harvest them earlier, which reduces risk of frost, hail, wind, insects and other enemies. Early harvests often produce higher grade and they spread the workload. 2, record 2, English, - early%20crop

2, record 2, French, - r%C3%A9colte%20pr%C3%A9coce

Fungi are a major source of spoilage in cereal grains, causing visible and invisible damage to the kernels. They can be divided into two major groups : field fungi and storage fungi. This is a natural division based on the moisture content of the kernels. During the early development of grain in the field, the moisture content of the kernels is high. As the grain matures, the moisture level gradually drops until at harvest, a mature kernel has from 13 to 16% moisture. Field fungi require higher moisture levels, while storage fungi can survive at lower levels. Thus, in the grain silos where the kernels finally mature, the storage fungi take over from the field fungi. The most important field fungi are Alternaria, Cladosporium, Fusarium and Helmintosporium. The most important storage fungi are Aspergillus and various Peniccilium species, which are active in the moisture range of 13 to 18%. 1, record 5, English, - storage%20fungi

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
