Aquatic weeds can be grouped by the following categories : algae, and emersed, floating, submersed and marginal(shoreline) weeds. Algae are green, stringy mats, sometimes called "pond scum". Algae are primitive plants without leaves, stems or roots. Emersed aquatic weeds generally are rooted in the soil, with part of the plant growing above the water surface.... Floating aquatic weeds are seed-bearing plants that float freely on the surface of the water or have leaves that float on the surface, connected by long stems to roots in the lake bottom. Submersed aquatic weeds are rooted in the soil and the entire plant is under the surface of the water. Some submersed aquatic weeds have flowers that emerge above the water surface. Marginal aquatic weeds can be herbaceous or woody and grow around the margins of the water. Marginal aquatic weeds may grow either in the shallow water or along the banks of the shoreline. 3, record 26, English, - aquatic%20weed

Les adventices aquatiques sont un véritable casse-tête écologique. En obstruant les réseaux d'égouts et de drainage, elles peuvent causer des inondations, contaminer l'eau potable et créer des foyers de reproduction d'insectes nuisibles et de bactéries. Rusty tussock moth.... Larvae attack all conifer seedling species.... These gregarious caterpillars completely denude a seedling before moving on to the next, and can occur in patches of 5-100 styroblocks.... The adult male is rusty-brown with a white dot and light brown band on each forewing. The female is flightless, sedentary, with light tan hairs covering the body. The population overwinters as white egg masses which can be cemented to the sides and bottoms of styroblocks. They will adhere to the blocks after seedlings have been lifted and blocks washed and stored. Because the eggs are white, they often go unnoticed. Larvae emerge from these egg masses(often on styroblocks) around May, and actively feed on newly emerged seedlings. They are hairy, up to 28 mm long, have two black hair "pencils" projecting forward and one to the rear, four golden brushes of hair on the back, accompanied by eight warty protuberances with yellow and black hairs on each segment. 4, record 32, English, - rusty%20tussock%20moth

No one can deny the importance of integrating the community and its inhabitants in the development and planning processes of a renovation project within their neighborhood. Nevertheless, the traditional methods of participatory urban planning often inhibit some of the sections of the community to express themselves and do not allow enough time for the maturing and appropriation of the projects. This scenario calls out for new forms of intervention that embrace the involvement of the inhabitants throughout the entire development process so that a new steadfast culture of public participation may emerge. 1, record 33, English, - participatory%20urban%20planning

Nanoscience is the study of atoms, molecules, and objects whose size is on the nanometer scale (1 to 100 nanometers). Why is the study of nanoscience different than the same problems on a larger scale? Physics is different on the nanometer scale. Properties not seen on a macroscopic scale now become important- such as quantum mechanical and thermodynamic properties. 1, record 51, Spanish, - espigaz%C3%B3n

Fourth generation warfare (4GW) is a concept in American military doctrine ... used to describe warfare’s return to a decentralized form. In terms of generational modern warfare, the fourth generation signifies the nation states’ loss of their monopoly on combat forces, returning in a sense to the uncontrolled combat of pre-modern times. The simplest definition includes any war in which one of the major participants is not a state but rather a violent ideological network. Fourth generation wars are characterized by a blurring of the lines between war and politics, soldier and civilian, peace and conflict, battlefield and safety. ... Fourth generation warfare is defined as conflicts which involve the following elements: high technology, terrorism, a non-national or transnational base, a direct attack on the enemy’s culture, highly sophisticated psychological warfare, especially through manipulation of the media. 2, record 73, English, - fourth%20generation%20warfare

Gel spinning is a special process used to obtain high strength or other special fiber properties. The polymer is not in a true liquid state during extrusion. Not completely separated, as they would be in a true solution, the polymer chains are bound together at various points in liquid crystal form. This produces strong inter-chain forces in the resulting filaments that can significantly increase the tensile strength of the fibers. In addition, the liquid crystals are aligned along the fiber axis by the shear forces during extrusion. The filaments emerge with an unusually high degree of orientation relative to each other, further enhancing strength. 1, record 77, English, - gel%20spinning
Record number: 77, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The process can also be described as dry-wet spinning, since the filaments first pass through air and then are cooled further in a liquid bath. Some high-strength polyethylene and aramid fibers are produced by gel spinning. 1, record 77, English, - gel%20spinning

Septic shock leads to severe damage to and failure of multiple organ systems(multiple organ failure=MOF). Of these myriad effects, those influencing cardiovascular function and blood clotting are of most consequence. As an understanding of septic shock has begun to emerge, so to have new attempts at intervention. These attempts include those directed at eliminating or neutralizing the responsible microorganisms invading normally sterile host tissues or, in the case of gram-negative infection, the endotoxin or liposaccharide(LPS). [A Danish physicist from the Santa Fe Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Steen] Rasmussen, during the late 1980s, created a computer model that imitated primordial conditions with an artificial chemistry consisting of millions of computer instructions. As the computer ran through thousands of generations, digital "proto-organisms" died and new ones were created. Rasmussen concluded, among other things, that the evolution of lifelike forms depended on symbiotic, or co-operative structures, which seemed to emerge spontaneously within the system. "I think this is a law of the universe, "says Rasmussen. "and it makes possible the jump from nonliving to living. " 1, record 94, English, - digital%20proto%2Dorganism
