Putting a price on pollution is the most efficient and affordable way of reducing our emissions. In provinces where the federal fuel charge applies, eight out of ten households get more money back than they pay through their quarterly pollution price rebate. In small and rural communities, where energy costs are often higher and people have fewer alternatives, the federal government also provides a rural supplement. 1, record 2, English, - pollution%20price%20rebate

1, record 2, French, - remise%20relative%20%C3%A0%20la%20tarification%20de%20la%20pollution

Simply stated, energizing the [Jacobs] Engine Brake effectively converts a power producing diesel engine into a power absorbing air compressor. This is accomplished when desired [by a mechanism] which opens the cylinder exhaust valves near the top of the normal power stroke releasing the compressed cylinder charge to exhaust. Silicon Drift Detectors(SDD) are essentially 450 μm-thick discs of high-resistivity silicon which is fully depleted by applying a negative bias voltage to both sides of the disc. On one side of the planar structure the bias is graduated across the device by means of a series of "drift rings" such that a strong transverse electric field component is developed within the structure. This is used to direct electrons produced as a result of x-ray interactions towards a small charge collecting anode. On the opposite side of the device(x-ray entrance side) there is a uniform shallow implanted junction contact to allow good low energy x-ray sensitivity and minimum charge loss. 2, record 11, English, - silicon%20drift%20detector

Energy spectroscopy. For energy analysis the output current pulse from a PMT [photomultiplier tube] or from a semiconductor detector is often applied to a charge-sensitive preamplifier. The preamplifier produces a voltage pulse with a peak amplitude that is proportional to the total charge in the current pulse, which is proportional to the energy absorbed from the incident radiation. Amplifiers and filters are used to expand the range of the peak amplitude and to shape the signal from the preamplifier, a process that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio for the system. For energy analysis the peak amplitude of the shaped pulse represents the information of interest. Discriminators and single-channel analyzers(SCA) can be used, following the signal shaping system, to determine the presence of certain energies of detected radiation. A discriminator produces an output logic pulse if it's input signal exceeds a preset threshold level. An SCA produces an output logic pulse if the peak amplitude of it's input signal falls within the energy window that is established with two preset threshold levels. 1, record 14, English, - energy%20spectroscopy

When operated at temperatures well below the superconductor's critical temperature(typically below 1 K), the equilibrium state of the junction is easily perturbed by any photon striking it. By applying a small bias voltage across the junction and a suitable parallel magnetic field to suppress the Josephson current, an electrical charge proportional to the energy of the perturbing photon can be extracted from the device. 1, record 24, English, - superconducting%20tunnel%20junction

A transport property of a substance is its ability to transfer matter, energy, or some other specified property from one place to another. For example, molecules(in gases, liquids, and solids) diffuse down a concentration gradient until the composition is uniform, and the rate of this diffusion is a transport property. The rate of thermal conduction, the transport of energy down a temperature gradient, is another transport property characteristic of the substance and its state. Electric conduction is the transport of charge(by ions or electrons) in a potential gradient, and the electric conductivity of the substance is a transport property. The energy for biosynthesis comes from the hydrolysis of ATP.... Throughout the cell, reactions that would otherwise be unfavorable, including all biosynthetic reactions, are driven directly or indirectly by the hydrolysis of ATP molecules. The large amount of energy released in this reaction derives from several sources, including the high stability of phosphate in its free form and the release of unfavorable charge repulsion between two adjacent phosphates in an ATP molecule. 2, record 26, English, - biosynthesis

The ’flip-side’ of the Peltier effect is the Seebeck effect-when thermal energy moves through an electrically-conductive material, charge carriers are transported by the heat. Thus when you create a temperature difference across a thermoelectric device, the movement of heat and charge carriers creates an electrical pressure(called Seebeck voltage). If an electrical load is connected across the device, current will flow-if not, the pressure builds to a steady state condition and a ’no-load’ voltage will be present. 3, record 29, English, - Seebeck%20voltage

The method by which incident radiation interacts with the medium to cause ionization may be direct or indirect. Electromagnetic radiations (X rays and gamma photons) are indirectly ionizing; that is, they give up their energy in various interactions with cellular molecules, and the energy is then utilized to produce a fast-moving charged particle such as an electron. It is the electron that then secondarily may react with a target molecule. Charged particles, in contrast, strike the tissue or medium and directly react with target molecules, such as oxygen or water. These particulate radiations are directly ionizing radiations. 1, record 32, English, - gamma%20photon

The substrate... can be considered to be destabilized by changes, associated with its binding to the enzyme, and the consequent strain resulting from charge distribution(electrostatic effects) and mechanical distortion. Nucleophilic and electrophilic centres are brought into juxtaposition with each other to allow new covalent bonds to be formed. Solvation of the enzyme may be of great importance as a temperature-dependent transducer of energy in the interaction of the enzyme surface with the aqueous environment of the enzyme, leading to changes in the interior of the enzyme. 1, record 44, English, - charge%20distribution

1, record 44, French, - distribution%20de%20charge

The energy charge is 1 if the total adenine nucleotide pool is fully phosphorylated to ATP and 0 if the adenine nucleotides are "empty" and present only as AMP. Normally the energy charge of cells is about 0. 9, meaning that the adenylate system is almost completely charged. 2, record 45, English, - energy%20charge
