Maintenance... Adding maintenance to the equation generally results in lower total life-cycle costs than design-bid-build or simple design-build for two reasons. First, maintenance personnel are part of the proponent's value engineering process during preparation for the RFP [Request for Proposals] submission. This ensures a focus on system maintenance and minimizing life-cycle cost, in addition to engineering ingenuity. Second, a design-build-maintain contract optimizes construction costs to minimize overall life-cycle costs. The successful proponent is given the right incentives to increase the quality of construction material to reduce total life-cycle cost of the project. This benefit is maximized if the contractor maintains the vehicles, rail systems, rail infrastructure, and operates the maintenance facility. 1, record 2, English, - design%2Dbuild%2Dmaintain%20contract

Subatomic particles have various properties and are affected by certain forces that exhibit symmetry. An important property that gives rise to a conservation law is parity. In quantum mechanics all elementary particles and atoms may be described in terms of a wave equation. If this wave equation remains identical after simultaneous reflection of all spatial coordinates of the particle through the origin of the coordinate system, then it is said to have even parity. If such simultaneous reflection results in a wave equation that differs from the original wave equation only in sign, then the particle is said to have odd parity. The overall parity of a collection of particles, such as a molecule, is found to be unchanged with time during physical processes and reactions; this fact is expressed as the law of conservation of parity. 2, record 10, English, - law%20of%20conservation%20of%20parity

[Steam Traps] Monitoring and evaluation equipment does not save any energy directly, but identifies traps that have failed and whether failure has occurred in an open or closed position. Traps failing in an open position allow steam to pass continuously, as long as the system is energized. The rate of energy loss can be estimated based on the size of the orifice and system steam pressure... figure is derived from Grashof's equation for steam discharge through an orifice... and assumes the trap is energized(leaks) the entire year, all steam leak energy is lost, and that makeup water is available at an average temperature of 60°F. 1, record 15, English, - Grashof%26rsquo%3Bs%20equation

3, record 25, French, - r%C3%A9gime%20turbulent

The bifurcation to which [this] equation gives rise(...) is called supercritical or normal. The limit cycle is created with a zero amplitude and at the bifurcation point, the system is in a state of marginal stability. This results from the presence of the dissipative term... whose effect... counteracts that of the instability. Consequently, the solution does not undergo a sudden transformation at the bifurcation but changes gradually. This is generally the case whenever the nonlinear terms of lowest order are such as to counteract the instability. 2, record 26, English, - normal%20bifurcation

2, record 26, French, - bifurcation%20supercritique
