The cost functions used within predictive dynamics are similar to those used with optimization-based posture prediction. The goal of these functions is to drive the motion prediction based on minimizing factors, like energy and effort. This minimization must still adhere to all constraints specified for the particular motion. The distinguishing constraint of predictive dynamics is that it incorporates the general equations of motion. These equations describe the dynamics of our world, and attempt to solve for an unknown motion and the forces behind it. 1, record 1, English, - motion%20prediction

1, record 1, Spanish, - predicci%C3%B3n%20del%20movimiento

The motion of free-floating space robots is characterized by non-holonomic constraints, i. e., non-integrable rate constraint equations. These constraints originate from the principles of conservation of angular momentum. It is well known that these rate constraints can also be written to form an input-affine drift-less control system. Trajectory planning of these systems is extremely challenging and computation intensive since the motion must satisfy differential constraints. Under certain conditions, these drift-less control systems can be shown to be differentially flat. 1, record 2, English, - free%2Dfloating%20space%20robot

To date, most of the research on the control of space robots has centered on "free-floating" robots. Free-floating robots are defined as space robots where the satellite base position and orientation are unactuated. Without base actuation, no external forces or torques act upon the system when the end-effector is not in contact with the work environment. The linear and angular momenta of the system are conserved, so the spacecraft base moves in reaction to commanded arm motion. 2, record 2, English, - free%2Dfloating%20space%20robot

[Roy Jackson. Princeton University. ] My main current interest is in developing equations of change that describe the motion of a granular material and the fluid that occupies its interstices, and using these equations in the solution of problems of practical importance, such as fluidized beds; standpipe flow and particle circulation systems; shear flows, chutes, and landslides; and transport of gas and particles in pipes. We have been successful in elucidating the structures that dominate the behavior of fluidized suspensions and in applying these insights to practical flows. 3, record 11, English, - fluidized%20suspension

1, record 11, French, - suspension%20fluidis%C3%A9e

The first numerical weather prediction models used the quasi-geostrophic or Q-G approximation, which consists of using the geostrophic wind for the actual wind everywhere except when computing divergence. The Q-G approximation eliminates both sound and gravity waves as solutions to the equations of motion. The Q-G equations are often referred to as the filtered equations since they filter out sound and gravity waves. This allows a larger time step to be used, as well as eliminating the problem of balancing the initial conditions. 3, record 15, English, - filtered%20equation

An idealized treatment of a fluid between two large parallel plates(to permit ignoring edge effects) of area A, separated by a distance h. If one plate moves relative to the other with a constant velocity V, requiring a force F acting in the direction of movement, and the density, pressure, and viscosity throughout the fluid are constant, the Newtonian equation can be coupled with the equations of motion and of continuity to show that the velocity gradient in the fluid is constant... 1, record 22, French, - cisaillement%20simple

The word "area" is generalized in the usual way to the measure of a two-dimensional space. The element of a given area will continue to occupy a surface of the same measure during evolution. This property of Hamiltonian systems is much more restrictive than simple conservation of energy or reversibility of equations of motion. It entails the conservation of volume in phase space. 2, record 23, English, - area%20conservation

Up until now the envelope equations have been written for a laterally unbounded system. The presence of side boundaries that confine the system can modify the instability mechanism. For example, in convection, viscous friction at a lateral wall increases the damping, which inhibits the instability. By contrast, a thermal perturbation in the wall or simply a difference of thermal conductivity between the fluid and the wall, can build up a horizontal temperature gradient that may induce a fluid motion, thus encouraging the instability. In both cases, we expect lateral boundary effects to impose modulations and act as boundary conditions on the envelope. 1, record 24, English, - lateral%20boundary%20effect

1, record 24, French, - effet%20de%20paroi%20lat%C3%A9rale
