A measurement of the completeness of an incomplete chemical reaction. It is defined as the negative logarithm(to the base 10) of the equilibrium constant, K, for the reaction in question. The pK is most frequently used to express the extent of dissociation or the strength of weak acids... In a solution of weak acid, if the concentration of undissociated acid is equal to the concentration of the anion of the acid, the pK will be equal to the pH. 1, record 1, English, - pK

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 DEF
1, record 7, French, - constante%20de%20rho
Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS

5, record 8, French, - constante%20d%27acidit%C3%A9

At particular temperature and pressure, state of moist air whose mixing ratio is such that the moist air can co-exist in neutral equilibrium with an associated condensed phase (liquid or solid) at the same temperature and pressure, the surface of separation being plane. 2, record 9, English, - saturation
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Usage has provided two closely related but importantly different conceptions of the term saturation(a) One is the condition in which the vapor pressure exerted by water vapor is equal to the saturation vapor pressure at the prevailing temperature. This definition implies the presence of a plane surface of pure liquid water or ice, and thus is a condition dependent upon the temperature only, irrespective of actual environment. Since, in nature, such a "plane surface of pure water" is rarely found and the physico-chemical environment of water vapor is anything but constant, this strict concept of saturation can be very misleading with regard to actual condensation processes; but the conservative base which this definition supplies is required as a comparison standard(as for relative humidity measurements). More specific terminology is often advisedly used, like "saturation with respect to water" or "saturation with respect to ice".(b) The other is the condition in which the vapor pressure of water vapor is equal to the equilibrium vapor pressure under the existing environmental conditions(temperature; and shape, size and composition of adjacent matter)... It should be clear that saturation should always be defined "with respect to" an intended environment, either standard(as in a above) or actual. 3, record 9, English, - saturation

The ice sheet is said to be in(dynamical) equilibrium if each column of ice gains as much as it loses. The mass balance integrated over the ice sheet must then be zero. Each variety of wood has what is called its equilibrium moisture content(EMC). This is the moisture level at which the wood is at rest naturally at a given atmospheric temperature and humidity. It is not constant. When the air is wetter, there will be moisture absorbed by the wood to a new wetter level, which is not the same amount as the moisture level in the air. 4, record 13, English, - stringed%20instrument%20wood

reactive(reactivity) : As applied to a chemical species, the term expresses a kinetic property. A species is said to be more reactive or to have a higher reactivity in some given context than some other(reference) species if it has a larger rate constant for a specified elementary reaction. The term has meaning only by reference to some explicitly stated or implicitly assumed set of conditions. It is not to be used for reactions or reaction patterns of compounds in general. The term is also more loosely used as a phenomenological description not restricted to elementary reactions. When applied in this sense the property under consideration, may reflect not only rate, but also equilibrium, constants. 3, record 19, English, - reactive

3, record 19, French, - r%C3%A9actif

reactive(reactivity) : As applied to a chemical species, the term expresses a kinetic property. 5, record 20, English, - reactivity

6, record 20, French, - r%C3%A9activit%C3%A9

Dynamic adsorption. The most common mode of adsorptive separation process employs a fixed bed, cyclic operation. As the wet process stream enters the fresh molecular-sieve bed, the water vapor is adsorbed in a finite length of bed called a mass-transfer zone(MTZ), the bed length through which the concentration of the adsorbate is reduced from essentially inlet to outlet conditions. As wet gas continues to flow, the bed may be divided into three distinct zones; the dynamic equilibrium zone with inlet gas, the MTZ, and the remaining active zone. In most molecular-adsorption systems, the MTZ becomes stabilized because of its favorable isotherm and moves at a constant speed. The bed is exhausted when the leading edge of the MTZ reaches the outlet end of the bed. High effective capacity results from high dynamic equilibrium capacity and a short MTZ. 1, record 30, English, - dynamic%20adsorption

The classical method for determining the dissociation constant of an acid or a base is to measure the electrical conductivity of solutions of varying concentrations... It is... unsuitable for acids of pK [smaller than] 7, because impurities in the solvent may affect the conductivity or displace the dissociation equilibrium. 1, record 34, English, - dissociation%20equilibrium

2, record 34, French, - %C3%A9quilibre%20de%20dissociation
