EQUILIBRIUM CYCLE [7 records]

Record 1 2022-07-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Biology
CONT

Unlike other sector's emissions, greenhouse gas emissions from the Land Use/Forestry Sector are considered to be kept in equilibrium due to the natural cycle of plants which uptake(sequester) carbon dioxide during plant growth and release it during decay or burning.

CONT

More recently, because of the industrialization and specialization of agriculture, the cycle of plants providing food for animals and humans, animals providing food for humans, and nutrients recycling from humans and animals that replenished the soil decreased as agriculturists came to prefer the convenience, cost, and consistency of nutrients from commercial fertilizer.

OBS

[A] natural cycle [is] a series of events in nature that repeat over and over, usually involving a complete process of growth or action. Examples include: the oxygen, nutrient, hydrologic and mineral cycles.

Key term(s)
  • plants natural cycle

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie végétale
CONT

La phytoremédiation [est un] processus lent [qui] dépend du cycle naturel des plantes.

CONT

Le fauchage tardif [...] tient compte de la diversité biologique et permet l'accomplissement du cycle des plantes.

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
DEF

The period elapsing between the time at which a power reactor is first made critical and the time at which it reaches its equilibrium cycle.

OBS

running-in period: term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Réacteurs nucléaires de fission
DEF

Période qui s'écoule entre la première mise à l'état critique d'un réacteur de puissance et le moment où il atteint sa phase d'équilibre.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique nucléaire

English

Subject field(s)
  • Financial and Budgetary Management
  • Nuclear Power Stations
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
DEF

A method of determining the fuel cycle costs of a nuclear power plant in an equilibrium cycle, which consists in adding expenses and deducting credits, and applying them to each fuel batch replaced in the reactor core.

OBS

batch-by-batch method: term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gestion budgétaire et financière
  • Centrales nucléaires
  • Réacteurs nucléaires de fission
DEF

Record 5 2002-07-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • General Mechanics (Physics)
CONT

The time for one complete oscillation of the mass is called the free period of the mass-spring system, and the distance up or down from the equilibrium position is the amplitude. The total displacement per cycle is frequently called the double amplitude.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique générale (Physique)
CONT

On appelle période libre du système masse-ressort, le temps d'une oscillation complète de la masse, et amplitude la distance maximale vers le haut ou vers le bas, à partir de la position d'équilibre. Le déplacement total par cycle est le double de l'amplitude.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
  • Air Pollution
  • Atmospheric Physics
CONT

Atmospheric constituents fall into two groups, those that are slowly accumulating and those that cycle between source and sink.... Whether a cycle is in equilibrium depends on how rapidly it equilibrates and on how rapidly the balance between source and sink is perturbed. A measure of the equilibration time of a cycle is the atmospheric residence time T. [The formula is :] T=M/S [, ] Where M is the global atmospheric burden and S is the global source or sink strength of a cycle at steady state.
