The octanol-water partition coefficient is the ratio of the concentration of a chemical in octanol and in water at equilibrium and at a specified temperature. Octanol is an organic solvent that is used as a surrogate for natural organic matter. This parameter is used in many environmental studies to help determine the fate of chemicals in the environment. An example would be using the coefficient to predict the extent a contaminant will bioaccumulate in fish. The octanol-water partition coefficient has been correlated to water solubility; therefore, the water solubility of a substance can be used to estimate its octanol-water partition coefficient. 11, record 1, English, - octanol%2Dwater%20partition%20coefficient

At particular temperature and pressure, state of moist air whose mixing ratio is such that the moist air can co-exist in neutral equilibrium with an associated condensed phase(liquid or solid) at the same temperature and pressure, the surface of separation being plane. 2, record 5, English, - saturation
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Usage has provided two closely related but importantly different conceptions of the term saturation (a) One is the condition in which the vapor pressure exerted by water vapor is equal to the saturation vapor pressure at the prevailing temperature. This definition implies the presence of a plane surface of pure liquid water or ice, and thus is a condition dependent upon the temperature only, irrespective of actual environment. Since, in nature, such a "plane surface of pure water" is rarely found and the physico-chemical environment of water vapor is anything but constant, this strict concept of saturation can be very misleading with regard to actual condensation processes; but the conservative base which this definition supplies is required as a comparison standard (as for relative humidity measurements). More specific terminology is often advisedly used, like "saturation with respect to water" or "saturation with respect to ice". (b) The other is the condition in which the vapor pressure of water vapor is equal to the equilibrium vapor pressure under the existing environmental conditions (temperature; and shape, size and composition of adjacent matter)... It should be clear that saturation should always be defined "with respect to" an intended environment, either standard (as in a above) or actual. 3, record 5, English, - saturation

Amino acids of living organisms consist virtually entirely of the L-enantiomer(or diastereomer). After the death the L-enantiomer(or diastereomer) for each amino acid is slowly racemized and eventually forms an equilibrium mixture consisting of equal amounts of the D-and L-enantiomers(or diastereomers). Strictly speaking, States which have not signed a treaty can in theory accede only with the consent of all the States which are already parties to the instrument. The ratio of this rule is that the States parties are entitled to know and approve of all other parties to a treaty binding them, so that the equilibrium of rights and obligations created by the treaty is not disturbed. Usually, therefore, States accede to a treaty in virtue of a special accession clause, enabling them to accede after the final date for signature of the treaty, and prescribing the procedure for deposit of accessions. 1, record 17, English, - accession%20clause
