The SIHS [Soldier's Integrated Headwear System] headborne system should be designed with warfighting in mind; predominantly for high tempo operations... The highest priority system capability for the headborne system is protection. Chief among these is protection against high and low velocity fragments [and] blast... Similarly, blast and impulse noise injury to the ears has been identified as important from both a protection and a command and control perspective. The future headborne system also needs to integrate CB [chemical and biological] protection for skin and respiration [and needs to include GPS [global positioning system] and radio antennae on the helmet, as well as any combat [identification] detector technology. For camouflage,... temperate and hot environments [are] important and... any future system [needs] to manage light, noise and thermal emissions to avoid detection by the enemy.... Compatibility with weapons, CB protective equipment, and corrective vision spectacles were seen to be essential for the dismounted rifleman role. 3, record 31, English, - headborne%20system

The Integrated Soldier System Project will provide the soldier with an integrated suite of equipment that includes weapon accessories, electronic devices, sensors, individual equipment and operational clothing. This soldier system will significantly increase soldier performance, as soldiers and low-level command centres will seamlessly share data and voice communications through a network. This capability will facilitate effective and timely interaction. As a result, soldiers will have more comprehensive situational awareness, real-time tactical information and greater synchronization of activity. 1, record 32, English, - Integrated%20Soldier%20System%20Project

1, record 32, French, - Projet%20d%27%C3%A9quipement%20int%C3%A9gr%C3%A9%20du%20soldat

Westinghouse Lunar Color Camera. Used on Apollo's 12 & 14. The camera was mounted inside the Modularized Equipment Stowage Assembly(MESA) in Quad 4 of the Lunar Module(LM) Descent Stage. This gave the capability of broadcasting the first steps of the astronauts as they climbed down the ladder of the LM at the start of the first EVA [extra vehicular activity]. The astronauts would then detach the camera from it's mount in the MESA, mount the camera on a tripod, and carry it away from the LM to show the progress of the EVA. This system was the same TV camera used on previous missions inside the CSM, with a few minor modifications to adapt it to the lunar environment. The Payload Operations Control Center at the Marshall Space Flight Center is a NASA facility for monitoring, coordinating and controlling on-orbit operations of Spacelab payloads. It is also used for premission test and training activities. The Payload Operations Control Center allows users on the ground to support and interact with onboard mission activities and permits direct communication between the investigator on the ground and flight crew on orbit. It provides ground command capability to operate experiments, manage payload resources and operate payload support equipment. Its facilities and services for instrument monitoring and control are made available to all users who request them. Each user area has a standard set of support equipment and space for special instrument-dedicated ground support equipment. A communication link can be arranged to allow the investigator to perform some or all operations from his own institution. 2, record 47, English, - Payload%20Operations%20Control%20Center

Advanced Gradient Heating Facility(AGHF)... The AGHF supports the production of advanced semiconductor materials and alloys using the directional solidification process, which depends on establishing a hot side and a cold side in the sample(a temperature gradient). It provides an extremely stable temperature environment of up to 1, 400°C, high-temperature gradients of up to 100°C/cm in the solidification zone, slow movement of the gradient across a sample to provide slow growth rates, efficient cooling through the use of a liquid metal cooling ring attached to the sample container, and Peltier pulse marking capability. The AGHF consists of three modules mounted in one side of a Spacelab double rack : the Core Facility Module contains the processing chamber with the furnace inside; the Electronics Module contains the controls and equipment necessary to operate the furnace; and the Gas Storage Module contains argon for chamber repressurization and sample cooling. 2, record 53, English, - advanced%20gradient%20heating%20facility

Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo". The SPCF(Solution Protein Crystal Growth Facility)... can provide opportunities for fundamental study of crystal growth of various solutions and proteins in space. SPCF consists of two major units, the Solution Crystallization Observation Facility(SCOF) and the Protein Crystallization Research Facility(PCRF). The SCOF has a cell cartridge for growing the crystal in solution. The temperature of crystal can be controlled. Moreover the SCOF provides the in-situ observation capability. The SCOF has several observation equipment, the two wavelength Mach-Zehnder interferometer microscope, the Michelson interferometer microscope and the light scattering measurement. They provide the capability to observe the crystallization morphology and the crystal surface and to measure the temperature of the liquid phase, the concentration distribution and the particle size. 2, record 57, English, - solution%20crystallization%20observation%20facility

The orbital aircraft has the capability to fly suborbital missions without propellant transfer, to distances of 3, 000 to 6, 000 nautical miles, depending on the aerodynamic configuration This capability exists because the airframe is capable of independent takeoff and landing. This offers a transcontinental range for a number of alternate missions that are difficult to imagine for an air launch concept. For the same reason, the tanker and orbital aircraft may be based at different locations, and interfaced only in flight. This offers more basing flexibility and removes the requirements for specialized facilities and ground support equipment such as that needed to mate the Shuttle orbiter to its carrier aircraft. 2, record 61, English, - orbital%20aircraft

Dilution/Extraction Equipment. Dilution and extraction is the oldest method of pulp washing. It consists simply of diluting a pulp slurry with weaker liquor, and subsequent thickening. The efficiency of this type of system is dependent upon the ratio of the discharge to the incoming consistency and the amount of dilution water added to the system. Older systems were inefficient due to limitations in thickening, but modern extraction presses, some having a displacement washing capability, are capable of discharge consistencies of 30-40 %, and multi-stage systems can be competitive with vacuum washer systems. 1, record 72, English, - extraction%20press

Dilution-extraction. 1, record 72, French, - presse%20d%27extraction
